What's the difference in mechanism between regular vomiting and precipitate vomiting? |
I was wondering what the difference in mechanism is between nausea to vomiting and precipitate vomiting (vomiting without warning, i.e. experiencing something gross). I have never experienced it, and I don't know if the whole retching and expulsion happen like regular vomiting, or if you go right to the vomiting stage without the retching and all of that. I was also wondering if the gag reflex always occurs before vomiting. Vomiting is ordinarily preceded by nausea. It is not unheard of for a person to vomit without feeling nauseated, particularly in cases of sudden injury or sudden shock, such as witnessing an awful sight or breathing a particularly noxious smell. Vomiting that occurs suddenly and without warning is called precipitate vomiting. But most people experience nausea for a period of time before they vomit. |
