Vomiting while sleeping?

my husband sometimes wakes up either about to vomit or he is in the middle of vomiting. this has to be dangerous! please help i am so worried! he wont do anything to help himself so what can i do?

A friend of mine has a husband who's been dealing with this problem. At least it sounds like the same thing. He has a condition called GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux disease. It's also called Acid Reflux. Whenever he lays down at night, he risks vomiting. His fix is to basically prop himself upright and to not eat anything after 5:00pm. The way I understand it, there's a surgical procedure that can be done to fix the flap between the stomach and the esophagus. He's terrified of doctors so refuses to have the surgery and to continue living the way he does. But if the problem is left alone, the stomach acids can eventually damage the lining of his esophagus. If your husband won't see a doctor, maybe he can try Prilosec or have nothing after 6:00.

He might have gerd (acid reflux) have him to go the doctor

you can drive his butt over to the hospital!

that is unnormal sleep behavior and i highly recommending seeking proffesional advive.

or

maybe he is dreaming of vomiting and that causes him to do it in real life. for example, sometimes you dream that your spitting and when you wake up, you feel that your mouth/pillow is wet.

idk but if he throws up while hes asleep he could die from drowning or somthing like that
it happen to my uncle :(

That's scary, I would do everything you can to get him to see a doctor about it. You can also elevate the head of your bed by putting pieces of wood under the frame and have him sleep on his side. It is still dangerous but it will slightly lessen his chances of aspirating which would be terrible. I hope everything works out and get his butt to the doctor!

I think you should get him to a Gatroenterologist. In the meanwhile, try having him take pepcid a/c or Zantac every day and not eating or drinking anything for at least 3 hours prior to sleep. Especially acidic foods.

If I were you, I'd get twin beds. Him in one bed and you in the other. The thought of being puked on while I slept is gross. It also might give him a clue to get that problem look at.

tell him to quit drinkin so much and maybe you should start doucheing b/c the smell from your downstairs is probably also giving him an upset stomach

His symptoms sound like what I have. A Hiatal Hernia with Gerd. He needs to sleep with his head higher than the rest of his body. Eat smaller, more frequent meals and nothing 3 hours before lying down. He risks damage to his esophagus with the acidic vomit continually rising in his throat.
I take over the counter Zantac. 150 mg. It really helps me, I can't eat without it.
He really needs to see an internist as what works for me may not be the answer for him. To do nothing is not acceptable.
Good luck, and get his butt to the doctor.

Hi- I am very sorry to hear about your Husband. There are a variety of reasons why this is happening. I hope that he will go to a Physician to rule out these symptoms. I would suggest that he eat small meals that are not spicy. Also, that he does not lay down after eating for @ least a half hour. I realize this must be frustrating, at best. It is important he go to the Physician, and I hope you can get him to go! This can be a fixable problem, and I'm sure that he doesn't enjoy this happening. Again, I'm sorry that this is happening to him. I hope to hear some follow up on this. Maybe you should have him research this with you. Here are a few web sites that may assist you in finding an answer.

Take care and GOD BLESS!
