Controlling vomiting? |
my boyfriend was diagnosed with a viral infection, but 4 days later, he is still vomiting pretty badly, what can be done to control this vomiting? He needs to see a doctor and get a prescription for a suppository, which will give him quick relief and help him rest. He should go to a doctor as soon as possible, dehydration can be dangerous. I had to go on IV for 6 hours from my last virus. Take gravol he needs to see an expert, that can be very bad. He really need to go back to his doctor. Try to get him to eat saltines and some juice. He's probably getting dehydrated. There are drugs available at a hospital to control nausea- and he sounds like he needs it as well as to be rehydrated. Dehydration is the enemy, a teaspoon of "Coca-cola" ROOM TEMP NOT COLD every hour for two hrs, then every 1/2 hour for two hrs, then increase dosage to 1 TBLSPN every half hour as long as the patient is holding down the "Coke". There is something in the formula of "Coca-cola" that settles the stomach, my Father was a Dr., and mother was a Nurse, this is what they did when we got a bad Virus as children, you really should go to the DR to be checked out, and properly diagnosed. He probably needs to go back to the doctor. In the meantime, try to make sure that he is hydrated. My doctor recommends a sports drink like Gatorade; even if he tosses it right back up, his body WILL absorb at least a little of it, and it's not rough on the esophagus if he continues to vomit. Don't try to get him to eat anything solid until he's no longer throwing up - he just risks aspirating it (he could aspirate fluid too, but it's a lot easier to cough up if necessary). It's very important that he stay hydrated, so that the various organ systems in his body do not start to shut down. If he is experiencing anything like hallucinations, tremors, or tenting of the skin (a bit of skin doesn't return to normal when it's lightly pinched into a "tent") he is already dehydrated, and should go to a doctor or emergency room NOW. after 4 days of bad vomiting, I really think he needs medical attention pretty quickly. This could lead to dehydration. |
