Bipolar Disorder?? Voices Question? |
i have bipolar 1, im on lithium 600mg daily. the problem is im still hearing voices. sometimes its just like a running commentry in my head, sometimes they tell me to do things, eg; overdose, cutting. dont be embarassed .they are not the enemy but are there to help .it sounds like you need extra meds to cope with the hallucinations .keep a diary of these hallucinations putting down time ,length, intensity (smell sound feel look taste )what you did before they happened and what you did after them especially the command ones.also try to use distraction techniques such as ignoring the voices (headphones /ipod etc are usually good for this )meditation for anxiety and calming yourself until you get to see your psychiatrist next.keep a note of what is the most effective and use that. You're dealing with more than bipolar disorder here. Lithium alone will not address the auditory or visual hallucinations (unless they occur SOLELY during a manic or depressive episode). You need to be on an anti-psychotic (e.g., risperdol, zyprexa). You need to be totally honest with your psychiatrist so he/she can make sure you get all the help you need. Hearing voices is auditory hallucinations, seeing things is visual hallucinations. If you do not come clean with the doc there is no way you can get better. It clearly shows you are having psychotic moments. PLEASE tell your psychiatrist, they can give you an anti-psychotic pill. They have new ones out (not like the old ones that made you feel like a zombie). And yes, bipolar can have psychotic features. Please tell your doc, it will help him and yourself, it must be terrible going through this without meds to help you. Take care you really need to be as honest as possible to get the right treatment, i actually used to be like this, had hallucinations, like plants coming out their pots wrapping their leaves around me, apples being thrown at me, little girl hiding in cupboards, roads getting wider then narrow, little girl crying and asking for help in my head, i told my psychiatrist, and i had the treatment that helped, i was on anti psychotics, i was concerned i'd get locked up as i had young children, but i wasn't, tell them and you'll get help Agreed. Lithium stabilizes the moods, but it won't treat other symptoms. It's fairly common for a bipolar person to also be on an anti-psychotic. I am. Talk to your doctor. As long as you're not a hazard they won't lock you up. You just need something to treat your additional symptoms. hey, if you want help then be honest with your psychiatrist, if you cant be honest with him or her hthen you cant really want to get better if you hear voices, i doubt you have bipolar disorder. Tell your psychiatrist! they won't lock you up for being honest. I am sure if you explain these hallucinations, visual & auditory, they will be able to offer you more help. CLEVERBU I THINK YOU ARE DEALING WITH MORE THAN BIPOLAR You need to talk to your psychiatrist about this; you may need a second medication just to treat the hallucinations; or maybe Lithium should be replaced with something else. (That's up to your doctor, of course.) you really need to talk to your doctor or nurse about it they are there to help you , i can not see them taking you into hospital just for this , you prob just need a change in your medication , i have bi polar to , good luck :) The symptoms you describe, are not symptoms of bi-polar, voices in the head, is not a symptom. |
