I have a lot of the symptoms of bi-polar disorder and BPD...hormones or not? |
I have a VERY bad temper and I'm usually angry or depressed. I cut myself occasionally and I have lots of mood swings. I don't have any friends in school and my parents think I'm crazy 'cause of the way I act. I try to control myself but I just can't. I fidget a lot...I cannot stay still. I have horrible concentration and I am VERY forgetful. Sometimes I talk to fast..don't know why..I have suicidal thoughts. I get mad for absolutely no reason at all. The tone in my voice is not that good usually. For some reason I can get REALLY hyper, but only for a short amount of time..about 5-10 minutes..but then after that its back to where I started..I feel very empty..I don't have any friends and I never had a boyfriend. I have many problems with my family. This is a textbook description of borderline personality disorder. Your best bet is a form of psychotherapy called dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). sounds like bipolar. see a therapist for an accurate diagnosis and meds (it takes a psychiatrist to prescribe so you may as well go straight to the source) I'm bipolar and I do some of those things, but only a doctor would be able to tell you what is really happening. It may be more than one thing, too. I think this is a lot more than hormones, personally. So you should ask your mom to take you to a counselor or psychiatrist for diagnosis and treatment, if you are under 18. Otherwise, make an appointment. You don't want to leave this go, sounds like you are going to trash your life if you don't get help. You sound like me except for the cutting myself thing. I've wondered if I had that either. Let me know about it. Unless you're leaving out significant details, I'd argue that it sounds a lot more like bi-polar than BPD. A classic textbook definition of BPD would include a pronounced fear of abandonment. Typically, the manic swings for bipolar tend to last a lot longer than 5-10 minutes, although the cycles are faster in young people and in females, both of which apply to you. |
