Question on mental health?

Can someone who suffers from depression and emotional personality disorder, have hallucinations and hear voices in their head without them being psychotic?

Also has anyone heard of someone who has an eating disorder that has hallucinations that frighten them into not eating?

Only a psychiatrist can give you a definitive answer to that - and one would need a thorough exam by one to determine that...but it is possible...

yeah, maybe youre just schitzo

of course they can are you a therapist??

in cultures past you would have been revered and respected

Yes.

Not sure what emotional personality disorder but severe depression can have some psychotic symptoms , known as depression with psychosis which can create hallucinations and paranoid delusions

Essentially these are psychotic symptoms so it is a psychotic illness.

umm I don't really know

go to wikipedia and search depession and see what they say

but depession is just a lack of saratonen in the brain. so probebly not

yeah........sounds kinda like schizo

Yes you can, it's all in the head tho.Your imagination plays tricks on you. It's not craziness.

yes you definitely can, and dont worry your not crazy dont listen to the people who say you are- the very fact that you have asked a question about this shows that your completely sane. Are you on any medication? If you are this could be the reason for it- i no i got this alot when first starting depression medication fluoxetine (prozac). You probably think alot if this is not the case and might have trouble sleeping because of this??? this makes the brain tired and overactive and messages get confused. Overactivity in the temporal lobe can cause you to hear noises that are not there- even voices, i used to getting buzzing alot, also hallucinations or little things which you think you have seen flick past your eyes, also i got alot of phantom smells- you may or may not get this also. Some of the smells are really not pleasant and some are very nice but none of them are actually there- its so strange what the brain can do!lol. You might also feel strage sensations on your skin and also twitch alot. Go see your doc just incase or call him/her to get a more professional medical opinion if your really worried as i dont know your medical history etc and all i can tell you is i have experienced similar. I hope this helps you and you start to feel better soon, take care x

Yes. I suffer with depression and there are times when I hear voices etc. For ages i was scared to tell anyone this as I thought it meant I was schizophrenic or something and the idea of having another 'problem' on top of all the others wasn't something I wanted to deal with. In the end though I told my therapist and my Dr. They didn't say anything straight away but after assessing me over a few weeks they said it was all due to my depression.

I don't know if hallucinations can cause an eating disorder, but I know eating disorders can cause hallucinations as the brain becomes starved. I guess it could happen the other way round too but that's not something I know anything about I am afraid.

It is always a good idea to get something like this checked out though, as a whole variety of things can cause you to have hallucinations.

Hallucinations of any kind are classed as psychosis. You may have psychotic depression.

No.

I recently went on training for my job, and the psychiatric nurse said that he visits some people whom he cares for, have similar problems. He said that some of his patients have schizophrenia and work, but have voices in their headds, but these people have learnt to ignore it. Depression can be part of schizophrenia. Obviously, their symptoms are mild. One of clients is also a paranoid scizphrenic whith similar symptoms, when unmedicated.

no way at all,have hallucinations.hear voices in their head,,etc..you must be phychotic...or,was drunk,,or,medication,for your depression...or both..go to the doctors,,asap...mary.c.

Yes you can it can happen if you are depressed but it doesn't mean you are mad it's part of the illness.
