I have only one vocal cord? |
I was only two weeks old when I had my heart murmur operation. The way that they went about it though was getting to the heart from my right side instead of in front. So to fix the problem, they needed to cut a vocal cord. People say that I should sue them but they kind of saved my life so I do not plan on it. Thing is I really wish I knew what I would sound like if I had two fully functional vocal cords. I also want to know if there is any way to repair it after 18 years. If so I would like any other suggestions. thank you I'm no doctor, but it would be my fair guess that there's no way of repairing or adding a vocal chord, because if it were possible there wouldn't be mute people, or people who have speach disorder (since they'd take this operation too). I recently read about a new procedure which some docs are doing which involves injecting the vocal cord with a substance that expands the vocal cord. Not sure if this would help in your situation. Try googling it, the article was in a recent New York Times science section. |
