Is intermittently coughing at night a bad sign?

I asked a question about coughing recently and I am wondering, I intermittently cough at night maybe about once every two months. The cough was dry at first but when it stopped, I coughed out thick mucus. It lasted for 2 hours max. About half way coughing, I heard a hissing-whistling sound and I don't know where it's coming from. I do have a sinus problem but there's no mucus coming down my throat. And to top it all up, I'm no smoker. I'm just a kid, I'm not allowed to smoke. Is it normal for me to experience this? Can it be serious? Should I tell my parents about it? Or maybe it's vocal cord dysfunction? Please answer this...

Could just be some simple sinus drainage into your chest. You need to go ahead and mention it to your parents. Simple over the counter meds may give you some relief. The drainage may cause you to cough while laying down and go away after you are up walking around. Prop yourself up on a pillow and try not to lay flat. As we get older our allergies and sinuses are more sensitive. If the cough is dry, some heated humidification in your room may help. If you are miserable, steam up the bathroom with a hot shower and sit in there to breathe in some moisture.
