Can you get vitiligo back?

I used to have Vitiligo when I was little. (I took things so it would stop showing, but my doctors did say that it could not work. But it did.) I wanted to know would I get it back? Because I see alot of people with it when there older. I know there is really no cure for it, so I know I still have it, but it does not show. I just wanted to know does anyone know if it would start showing again when I get older? Thanks.

Vitiligo or leukoderma, as you know..... is the patchy loss of skin pigmentation due to an auto-immune attack by the body's own immune system on skin melanocytes. The population incidence is between 1% and 2%. Except for reduced sun protection on the affected areas of skin

Your question is somewhat ambiguous... I am assuming that if you have it and it goes away.. will it come back again...

Keep in mind also that Most scientists believe that there is a genetic basis to vitiligo which makes a person susceptible. In good number of cases vitiligo is seen in more than one member of the family. Even if vitiligo is apparently absent in the family, it is still possible that it can be passed on genetically. The critical factor is, more than one gene is responsible for the development of vitiligo and thereafter the whole set of genes needs to be stimulated by some stimulus to cause vitiligo.

Genes are inherited in a random fashion from both parents, so vitiligo will be expressed only if complete set of all genes which make vitiligo come together in the same person. Now many scientists are studying these genetic aspects of vitiligo, by various methods like gene-sequencing computers and the mapping of the human genome to develop a technology that might effectively treat or arrest vitiligo.

And.. as you probably know.. it can be treated with laser treatment but somewhat expensive. As far as it COMING BACK.. that would be very difficult to predict. It is a genetic thing and also has to do with the prevalance of diabetes IN SOME PEOPLE.. thus, the answer to that is: It could or it could not and there is no way to make that determination

I don't know if you can get it back but I would be interested to hear how you got it to disappear. My son has it and has had it for nearly 20 years. It does affect him although he tries to ignore it. Please send me information, I would really like to be able to help him.
