How to shrink gun violence in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia is suffering from a growth in gun violence these past three years. This year, especially, has been deadly with children being caught in crossfires in the streets. Philadelphia has rather lax gun laws that enable people to buy as many guns as they want in a month. How can Philadelphia address this problem? Better yet - how can Philadelphians?

Take their guns away!

Your addressing the wrong thing. People are the problem not the gun. As for the laws? Criminals do not obey laws. Want to really fix things? try baby control... Report It

I am an Australian we are not allowed to have guns unless in a club or a Large land owner. The governor must do what we did here and simply ban them, have an amnesty period for ppl to hand them in then charge anyone unlicensed with a manditory 5 yrs jail. There is no easy fix, why do you even need them?
Protect yourself from someone with one so 2 get killed for the bargain basement price of one. Set up checkpoints on the border and take them off people as they drive in
But if there is no limit on buying, shoot away you'll soon run out of idiots...

eveyone must carry a gun and if thats not possible when u catch the little assholes instead of worrying about his rotten child hood or can he really be reabilitated have his trial, carry his punk a s s out of the courthouse kicking and screaming like the little ***** he is and shoot him on the court house steps and if he has any brothers lock there *** up now before they follow his footsteps. and to all u who think this is too harsh then put him in prison, tie him face down on a table and let them show him what brotherly love is all about

Your question assumes that guns are the cause of the violence. The real culprit is a decaying society. Guns are only one, highly visible, example of what happens when a society collapses.

Here are a few things that need to be fixed:

- Poverty that is perpetuated by a welfare system that encourages it to continue.
- Young, unmarried women shooting out babies like a Pez dispenser.
- Young men who have no incentive to marry and become an actual husband and father.
- An entertainment industry that glamorizes antisocial behavior that is hurtful to all of society.

Young men are raised in the climate produced by these things. What behavior would you expect from them?

I'm no "gun nut" but if you look at the situation objectively, it doesn't take a genius to see that guns are only one symptom of a society that is going right down the tubes.

Of course you could try outlawing all guns, like the brilliant city council in Chicago. Yeah, that certainly seems to be working well. Maybe next they should outlaw cars.

Arrest people and leave them in jail. Because of the jail crowdings, they keep letting people out...so people know its not a big deal. If they stay in jail, the violence will be off the streets
