Pc suggestions for autism? |
hello.My11year old brother, was diagnosed with autism years ago.He is not like an 11 year old intellectually. he went t normal schoolls, but continuously presented problems with his behaviour that ended in violence towards other children and principal and teacher. Now he doesn't fit anymore in the normal system,we realize, and we are all in vacations, so we spend most of our time as a family at home.We want him to use the pc,because he learns too much steriothypical帽 behaviours in the tv.He played the sims(first edition),but he copied all their annoying gestures. We don't wat him to copy violence or more stereothypical behaviour. Which things or programs can I download so he uses the computer? It's for entretainment and/or intellectual purposes. He gets bored with educational stuff,or too complicated stuff. His mind is like an 6-8 year old boy.Thank You!!!!!? you're right...he memorizes everything he sees, good or bad, specially if he believes it's hillariouss, which usually is bad. if you go onto google, look up games like cake mania, diner dash, lemonade stand, stuff like that, their is a website called www.arcadetown.com and their is all different tyes of games on it and some of them you can play online or you can download the full version for free. How about support groups? There are special schools that can help him, help the family and help minimize certain "symptoms" that he manifests and will also help him assimilate in to society; he WILL grow older and he has other needs other than food and shelter. He will benefit greatly as an individual if he is given the opportunity to receive therapeutic help geared to his personal needs. It's difficult to find games that aren't violent but I would search for a good educational company that makes fun learning games. I'm going to just guess and say get an electronic musical keyboard that can be connected to your computer that has a program that will work with it to teach music. Autistics are often gifted at this. If it lights up on the screen somehow this may also help. This is really a matter more complex than I think I can really help with, so I suggest you consult someone who is an expert in this area. Best wishes towards your success in this matter. I work in the school system with Autistic children and have a 4 year old with Autism myself. We have found at school the children seem to like the I Spy computer games. It gives them things to search for in different places. The only downside is that once these children beat the game they have it memorized therefore they need a new edition to play. My favorite kids PC games of all time are the old Humongous Entertainment games - Spy Fox, Freddie Fish, Pajama Sam, Putt Putt. They are fun and educational. My kids played them from 3 until about 10. The level of difficulty varies among them. Try Putt Putt or Freddie Fish first. There are 3 or 4 games for each character. They are like mysteries and change every time you play them, but they teach reasoning and logic skills. You might have a hard time finding them in stores because I don't think they're made any more, but you might be able to find them on eBay or online. there are so many websites that give support for autism. You need to check some out and make sure that learning on the computer is something he needs to do. Just because he gets bored with educational things doesn't mean that he doesn't need to get that information. Have you guys bought him a leapster? Those are fun, educational, and he would enjoy that, without any annoying behaviours learned. Good Luck |
