Is this vertigo?

Hi,
Does this sound like vertigo? Okay, its sort of a pulsing throb in my ears, eyes, head, and sometimes into my chest and arms. It doesn't hurt. Its sometimes a dizzy feeling. My mom and grandma have vertigo, but its really a hard thing to describe. Like I said, its a pulsing sort of feeling, when I move around, move my eyes in quick movements, loud noises, or sudden movements around me. Is this vertigo? I also have ringing in my ears a lot, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But its weird, sometimes I'll get vertigo before my period starts. What do you think?

I have vertigo from time to time and have never had the pulsing symptoms you describe.I my case..I feel like my eyes are spinning in my head..best way I can describe it is a case of the good old fashioned bed spins like when you have had too much to drink. Also , while standing, if I tilt my head back to look straight up..I get dizzy , lose my balance and fall over backwards.and Lastly , if fluorescent lights flicker I get dizzy and lose my balance..It is a very odd sensation
Best of luck

It sounds like heart palpitations - when your heartbeart creates a sound or throbbing sensation in your ears. Vertigo is dizziness or feeling like you are moving when you are still, or thinking that things around you are moving when they are still. Brief disorientation is common with rapid movements, especially if a person has a cold or congestion.

Palpitations occur because the carotid artery passes very close to the ear, and your pulse can cause minute changes in inner ear pressure each time the heart beats. It is possible that your pulse is causing some disorientation because of pulses of pressure on your vestibule (in the ear).

This can sometimes be a symptom of a neurological problem - it would be a good idea to get this checked by a doctor sometime.
