Vertigo - what could be causing it ? i do not have ear problems HELP?

for the past 3 years i have suffered vertigo. i have been to several docotrs and have been cleared of ear problems. i was told it was caused by migraines and was put on medication that didnt work. i was also told it was caused by anxiety and was put on anti depressants which didnt work either. i am at my wits end and at a point where i dont want to live if i have to suffer vertigo 24/7. does anyone have any suggestions as to what may cause my vertigo? i sick of feeling like im on a boat all the time :(

by the way im 24 yo

Oddly enough, something like this happened to my father. His vertigo would get so bad he would have to lay day and would be so sick and vomiting from the vertigo that he'd have to be taken to the hospital. He couldn't even drive because he never knew when it was going to happen to him. He had deafness, headaches, about everything and never had ear problems in his life mind you.

After endless doctor's appointments and such, he was diagnosed with something called Meniere's Disease. It took them a while to diagnose it as it is something that is not real common apparently (or not heard of often at least). But when I tell you my father went through hell trying to find out what was wrong with him, he did. He thought he was going nuts, and he never knew when it was going to hit. And what you describe is EXACTLY how he described he was feeling, that's why I felt I HAD to answer your post.

Please, please look at this link and every other link you can find about MENIERE'S DISEASE: http://www.entnet.org/healthinfo/balance... and http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/balance/...
Remember, they give you ALL the things that people CAN experience, but don't necessarily have to deal with them all. You can just have a couple of things that match and it could still be this disease.

The good news is, is that it is treatable somewhat, enough to get you "off that boat".

IF it turns out that it is not this, please do not stop going to your doctor and demanding more tests be done, send you to different doctors, second opinions, etc. I KNOW how debilitating and depressing this type of situation can be, because I watched my father deteriorate (mentally) because of it. He was at witts end when they finally diagnosed him.

BEST of luck to you. I would love for you to find me and let me know how you make out. ;o)

You would be wise to go see a naturapath or one of the health stores as they have consultants. As silly as it may sound, it may be diet related, that is, a lack of something in your diet.

My grandfather had it, my dad had it, and I hope to God I never get it. Not sure if it can be passed down through generation to generation, but its a real debilitating illness.

Did they check your sinuses? It may be allergy related and connected to such things as dust and pollen. If you feel like you are on a boat all the time then it is not anxiety. I get vertigio because I am scared of heights, but do not feel like I am on a boat all the time.

I'd see a Neurologist myself. I don't know what age you are, but maybe you've had a small stroke at some point in your life.

i think you have menieres disease, my husband has it and i feel so sad for you, his symptoms are constant dizziness, deafness in one ear (this happened over a long period), tinnitus, he also used to have attacks when he would collapse and not regain balance for a long time. he recently had an operation to cure the vertigo but it also kills what hearing is available in that ear, it has helped him allot, the reason why the docs say there is nothing wrong is because the ear will appear completely normal to look at, the problem is with the amount of liquid in the labyrinth.
if you would like to chat and find out more and these symptoms seem familiar you can e mail me sarahred1808@yahoo.co.uk if not look up menieres disease on the net and see what you think, good luck!

hi Sarah here ( i answered before not realizing i was logged in as my husband Dave) the lady below my previous awnser is right, menieres may present just a few symptoms, you must push your doctor for tests, my husband was fobbed off for 6 years during which time i thought he had a brain tumor because he seemed so ill, if they had helped him back then he wouldnt be deaf now, he also wouldnt of lost his army career! insist they take you seriously.

Do you take meclizine on a regular basis (also called antivert). Hopefully, they have tried a trial of this before giving up.If you haven't, ask for some and see what happens. Chronic vertigo can be debilitating. I would go to WebMd and other websites and read everything you can about chronic vertigo. There are medical treatments that can lessen your symptoms. There are clinics that specialize in chronic vertigo - search your area for one of these. You do not have to be in misery every day - there is help.
