Ever Had Vertigo???? When Will It End????

Woke during middle of night & couldnt get back to sleep severe head spins, went to 2 diff. Drs both said it was vertigo & should cease in appr. 6 wks. 3 mnths later still have vertigo - so I seen a naturopath/iridologist - she gave me tablets ginko, lymphodran & PSMT - she said it was due from stress - which is helping with assistance of a nutritional diet. When will it ever end??? I try and stay calm and positive about it, but when the bouts come on you cannot control it and it is very disturbing, can anyone help please. What else can I do or who can I see???

i have had it on and off for 3 years. i also have a lot of allergies and seem to get it in the winter i have had tests done and they could not find anything seriously wrong with me. it comes and goes. below is a link ,that some people say works the doctor gave me pills, serc, that seem to work after a couple of days. good luck i know it is very annoying. you may want to type in vertigo, inthe search for questions bar in yahoo. there is a lot of helpfull information there.

yes, but I think it had something to do with my inner-ear!
I got it after the flu, and it latest for 6 month....I finally went to the doctor. He did all kinds of expensive test. It went away by itself, but it still comes back once in a awhile....it makes me so sick....you just wanna die when you put your head down on the pillow...

My husband had terrible vertigo a few years back... believe it or not a chiropractor helped him. You might want to consider it. Also, take Sudafed (not PE, the regular Sudafed. You don't need a prescription but you have to ask for it from the pharmacist). It will help dry up fluid in your sinuses.

I had vertigo a few years ago and the doctors said it may have been due to Meneire's disease. Do you have a diagnosis yet? My vertigo did not last nearly as long as yours. I have noticed that sinus problems and a high sodium diet can exacerbate the problem. Sinus congestion can cause you to be dizzy due to the fluid in your inner ear, which is involved in balance. A high sodium diet will also affect your balance due to the fluid you retain.

If you work outside the home, make sure that your boss and your coworkers are aware of your condition, if they don't already know about it. The idea of suddenly becoming dizzy and off-balance is very scary. I remember being in the shower and suddenly feeling like the wall was moving, but it was me falling and taking the shower curtain and rod down with me. It was quite frightening. I have had my share of dizziness in my lifetime and granted it's no fun. Most of the time there is nothing that can be done about it as it's an imbalance of the fluid in the inner ear.

However, it can also stem from an ear infection..or an illness.

There can be a great variety of reasons for it but my main reason with my first bout of it in the late 60's was severe iron poor blood...and so very anemic that I had to go on iron pills for quite a while to build up my blood iron supply. So that could also be a reason unless you've had blood work done and it's been ruled out.

Also, when my eyes started to go bad, I became dizzy and had it off and on until I got glasses ... now, any type of sudden or fast movement can cause it...so try not to get up from a sitting position in a very quick manner.

The very worst dizzy spell I think I have even had with the greatest spinning room is when I was in doctors office having my ears cleaned out .. where they use a small pressurized tube that forces water into the ear and it hits the back of the ear so hard that it really disturbs the inner ear so bad that you cannot even sit up for quite sometime much less thinking about standing.... Hope some of these responses helped somewhat...the best to you with your dizziness....

Yes I have had Vertigo.... no fun.... have had it while driving on the Highway.

I believe mine was caused from taking Anti-Depressants.. Celexa.. I had vertigo and a few other side effects and decided to take myself off the medicine and after a while I got better.

It is best to do research to find out if other people have complained about side effects with these medicines. And remember, the drug companies may not be forth coming or may play down side effects because they want to sell the drug.

Also, other doctors will not contradict the doctor that put you on the medicine because it is too much responsibility if something should happen to you. If you decide to come off Anti-Ds you must do it very slowly. I took 1/4 a pill less ever few days. Talk to the doctor that put you on them and tell him you want to come off.

i've had it for 5 years now. i'm 35 now and it comes and goes.
first night out of no where. jsut fell down after getting up from sofa...
but each day it got a little better, until it was just 'gone'

but it would reappear several times int he next few years.
all dimmer and more subtle than the first episode.

if you have BPPV, a comm on form also known as 'top shelf' vertigo (as you get dizzy when looking up at a shelf) you can try some professional exercises for the head.
there are 'maneuvers' that an ENT can use on you to move your head around and the 'crystals' that have formed in the inner ear to areas that won't affect your balance.

they work for some, about 80% success if done correctly.

i think the stress and ginko routes are bologna. but, that's only because i've tried it all and only the maneuvers seem to work.

For godsakes, just go to a real doctor and get on prednisone and a steriodal medication. I had severe labyrinthitis a few years ago, not even being able to sit up in bed, and this medication did a good job of clearing it up within a week.
