How is vertigo caused, and is there a cure?Is it permanent? Is it common?

My mom suffers from an illness called vertigo. This morning I was watching her sleeping. I noticed that her eyes were closed, but I could see that her eyeballs were rolling from side to side. I hope this is nothing serious.

i get vertigo from time to time. its caused from difference in the pressures in your ears. for example, there may be more pressure in one ear than the other. its not too serious. when it happens to me, i just have to lie in bed on the same side for the whole day because everything keeps spinning whenever i move my head. its different for all people though. they had me take hearing tests and an mri to see if things were irregular, but they were normal.

VERTIGO IS NOT A VIRUS!! it is just drastic pressure changes! i get vertigo but have never had an ear infection in my life. for some people, it goes away when they get older. it is different for everyone

Vertigo is more common then you think - a prescription called antivert is currently the most common drug used to treat this. The effects of the drug are minimal however the benefits are fantastic. The pill is oblong and half yellow and half white.

Vertigo is generally caused by a disruption in the middle ear and can range from a few days to a lifetime scenario.

Hope this helps - A

everyone's eyes move when they dream.
Vertigo is frequently caused by inner ear problems. It is usually treatable

Vertigo is a virus that passes just like any other virus, but not as violently as other viruses. Vertigo is an infection of the ear, that makes you dizzy, because balance is based in the ear. I don't think there is a cure for it, but there are treatments.

Vertigo is the feeling that you or your environment is moving when no movement occurs. Imprecisely called dizziness, the term vertigo is the specific term used to describe an illusion of movement. Unlike nonspecific lightheadedness or dizziness, vertigo has relatively few causes.

Vertigo Causes:
Vertigo can be caused by problems in the brain or the inner ear. Vertigo is common.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common form of vertigo and is characterized by the sensation of motion initiated by sudden head movements.

Vertigo may also be caused by inflammation within the inner ear. This is known as labyrinthitis. This condition is characterized by the sudden onset of vertigo and may be associated with hearing loss.

There are other types of vertigo also, visit www.webmd.com for more types of Vertigo.

Vertigo Symptoms:

Nausea or vomiting
Sweating
Abnormal eye movements

Commonly prescribed medications include the following:
Meclizine hydrochloride (Antivert)
Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)
Scopolamine transdermal patch
Promethazine hydrochloride (Phenergan)
Diazepam (Valium)

The prognosis and treatment depends upon which type of vertigo your mother has, visit www.webmd.com for more information.
