Help-portable ventilator needed?

I need help finding a portable ventilator and do not know where to begin my search. My mom was rendered a quadrapalegic due to a spinal cord/brain stem tumor. She had been in Craig Hospital in Denver until today and now is in a long-term care facility in FL wherein they have no portable vents. I do not know where to start my search. Any help would be incredibly appreciated.

I recommend that you talk to her doctor to get a ventilator from a home care company. You would then get whatever kind of ventilator they use or her doctor specifies. I think that an LTV 1200 (or any of the LTV series) would be most likely found in home care companies. They like them because they are transport vents, battery powered, and reasonably compact/light. Remember, a ventilator is a medical device for sale only to physicians. You can't buy one yourself. If you wish to take matters into your own hands, call the local home care companies and ask them what kind of ventilators they issue. Do your research on each model and pick a home care company that seems like it offers the best equipment and service.

The other RT who posted here suggested that an LP 10 might be suitable. It is a transport vent like a house is movable. It can be done, but it's awfully big to be considered a portable vent.

I recommend that you find out who the local home care companies are and find out what kind of portable vents they issue, if they do vents at all. This is a good place to start. Your mom will need an order from her doctor to allow her to get a vent from a home care company. Then, the home care company will be by to get things set-up and provide support for their equipment.

I sure this helps you.

LP 10's are awesome.
However that long term facility should be able to provide your MOm with a vent, secondly i'd be concerned if they couldnt because who's going to manage it!?! I'd be asking some questions to that facility asap!!!

You can call any durable medical company, looking in your yellow pages or google, durable medical equipment, your city, fl and you should get several responses.
