Question about ventilator orders? |
When a Dr. writes an order for a vent, what is required to be on the order? Thanks! In conventional ventilation, the order must specify Mode, Rate, Ventilator orders are complicated. Typically, the first part of the order is the "mode," or the conditions which trigger the ventilator. Examples are IMV, SIMV, and full support. These are all essentially instructions on whether the machine will ventilate regardless of what the person is doing, or if it will only trigger if the person fails to breathe adequately. Unfortunately, each mode (and there are many more) requires its own set of parameters, including trigger threshold, volume, % oxygen, and so on, so there is no fixed set of requirements on an order. Are you looking for something specific? The doctor should know how to write the prescription, so I'm not sure I understand your question. I deal with the prescriptions on a regular basis -- for ventilators and non-invasive positive pressure (NPPR) support items, such as CPAP and bi-level machines. |
