How do you perform a Vital Capacity on a Drager Ventilator?

How do you perform a Vital Capacity on a Drager Ventilator?

This should only be used on a patient who's been on weaning trials and is ready for this type of exercise. You have to momentarily disconnect the circuit from the ET tube and place a Wright's respirometer at the hub of the tube. Perform the exercise as recommended per the respirometer's recommendations. Reconnect the circuitry everytime and allow the patient to utilize the ventilator for breaths if needed.

Firstly, you'd need to know what Dr盲ger Ventilator it is. You could find that on the Dr盲ger website:
http://www.draeger.com/MTms/internet/sit...
According to Wikipedia , "Vital capacity is the maximum amount of air a person can expel from the lungs after first filling the lungs to their maximum extent and then expiring to the maximum extent (about 4600 milliliters). It equals the inspiratory reserve volume plus the tidal volume plus the expiratory reserve volume."
I would read the brochure on the particular ventilator unit at Dr盲ger and see if the info was there...
