Is herpes contagious? How about syphilis? Is it true that syphilis can be contracted by walking barefoot?

I've also heard that you can get venereal diseases by sitting on infected toilet seats. Is there any truth to this rumor?

Ask your mom... We've been through this already. -Ain't that right Lou-Lou?

no you cannot get it from a toilet seat or bare feet.they are both very contagious but you can cure syphilis you cannot cure herpes

Herpes is very contagious. Syphilis is contagious as well. Both can be contracted even without intercourse, assuming that there is contact with the infected spots.

Some kinds of syphilis (Yaws, specifically) can be contracted through skin contact. However, I don't believe that the disease can survive lying dormant on the ground or even on a toilet bowl (because the person would have to have syphilis on their rear ends to get it there, and that would be pretty difficult to do!).

You probably won't get any VD through sitting on an infected toilet seat. I don't know how much bacteria urine carries, but I think it's more disgusting than it is dangerous.

Urine is sterile. Bacteria grows in it after it sits around for a little while.

You cannot get syphilis from walking barefoot. I Understand why people may think this though. It's common in the second stage of untreated syphilis for a patient to get a rash on the palms of their hands & soles of their feet. Touching the rash can transmit the bacteria, but, walking barefoot after someone would probably not transmit it. You would need to step in the exact same spot they did, and have a way for the bacteria to get inside you.

Syphilis is easily treated with simple antibiotics.

Herpes is contagious - but you need to have contact with an open sore or an infected area.

The toilet seat story is simply a myth. No stds can be transmitted by sitting on them - not even crabs.

Think of it like this: if you could get stds from toilet seats, we all would probably have had one at some time in our lives. After all, we've all used a public restroom at least once in our lives!

herpes is contagious during the active period when lesions are present. Syphllis has be transmitted through bare feet walking on the back of person with syphllitic rash and I have seen sores that were contracted from primary (lst stage) on all parts of the body that may have been open(abrasion, cut, etc;and merely touched or rubbed the sore. Very contageous and very treatable. There are some who need more extensive rx than normal, however, and can be very expdensive. Always suspect possible hiv infection with syphillis and other stds.
Infections seem to go together. I don't hink there is enough information out there about hiv and it is being ignored. Be wary. Protect yourself. Use condoms.(don't give him/her anything but love). No, you can't tell by looking at someone if they have hiv, syphillis or any other std.
