Any veins in the ear?

There's always been that myth about having a vein in your upper ear that can paralyze your face, but most people say that's not true. Then my other friend said that there's a vein in your ear that if you pierce it, your ear will shrivel up. I thought the vein that can paralyze you was BEHIND you ear, on your neck.

So is there any veins in your ear? And if so, are they like major veins that will do something bad if they get pierced? Or jjust veins that don't really do anything so it doesn't really matter if they get pierced or not?

Well like, nerves, veins, same thing. Are there any nerves in your ear too I guess?

Taken from a Medical library

Inner Ear

The inner ear is enclosed in dense bone and contains fluid and the tiny hearing cells. It is lined by a delicate transparent membrane supplied by microscopic blood vessels. In the small chamber, fluid waves, resulting from movement of the stapes, are transformed into electrical impulses in the nerve.

Nerve Pathways

The electrical impulses created in the inner ear chamber are transmitted to the brain by the hearing nerve. The nerve pathways leading to the brain are enclosed in a small bony canal along with the nerve of balance and the nerve which stimulates movement of the facial muscle.

take a flash light and hold it to the ear in a dark room and you will see. yes it does matter.

Well, aren't veins needed to carry blood to places, and if so, my ears so bled when i got them pierced.

There is nerves around your ear that, if damaged, can paralyze you face. I don't think any "vein" could do that. Sounds like some old wives tales.

You have to have veins to return blood to your heart so every living part has veins because every living part has to have a blood flowing supply. One hole in your ear is enough. Pops

Your ear is made out of cartilage. There is no blood supply to cartilage (this is why torn cartilage does not heal).

The skin covering your ear, however, contains capillaries. This is why you bleed during a piercing.

The only thing to worry about during a piercing is the nerves.
