Thin veins-what does this mean?

Yesterday I had a general anaesthetic and both times the anaesthetist tried to put the needle the vein in my hand it went straight through the other side of the vein and he ended up usung a vein in my arm.He said that I have very thin veins and it is unusual-has anyone heard of this and why do I have it?Thanks.

I have a problem with that. When I go to have my blood drawn... my veins roll. My arms are not that good for blood draws. My hands are good though.

The reason why is you have rolling veins. It's because your body freezes up probably. Do you get nervous by seeing needles?

I've also hear that having bad circulation can cause veins to not work right either.

Why did he/she start with your hand anyway?

The easiest way to do blood draws is in the arms.

I, personally, would only use a hand as a last thing because 1) it hurts the patient and 2) it leaves a ugly bruise.

i was in hospital last week having an op on my leg....... my anaesthatist had the same problem and did the same with my veins.. he spent ages tring to get it in and in the end he had to use a childrens needle to get in my vein cus was that thin, i dont think theres anything wrong with having thin veins... i have very thin arms so this is probs why i have them. i wouldnt worry too much :)
