I have bad veins and have trouble with blood draws for tests. Is there a way to improve my veins?

The only vein that seems to cooperate inside the elbows is the left arm. My doctor and a nurse tried my right arm in 4 different spots before having success in the vein on the top of my hand. Is there anything I can do to improve my veins to make this easier or am I stuck with getting stuck a lot?

They found a few good ones yesterday, but they seemed to roll and for whatever reaason they couldn't get the needle in to draw. I had to help with the one on my hand by flexing several times. I used to give blood and also platelet donations, but now I won't go anymore because I end up with huge bruises that stay for many days and sore arms to go with it.

lotta upper body working out to increase muscle mass may make veins grow to supply the muscle, but i been sticking for 30 years and some folks are just tough. make sure you know where the best ones are and send them there.

I also have this problem, usually ending up with a ruptured blood vessel in both arms before they finally go the the back of my hand. I believe this is something you are born with, and I always tell my phlebotomist the problem before they start sticking me. You do not have to allow them to try multiple times before using the hand. Remember, its your body, and you are paying them for this service. Tell them you will allow them to try one time in each arm, and then they are to move to your hand. Or just take it from the hand from the start. But we are not pin cushions, no matter how good they think they are at "hitting the vein." Sometimes my vein will collapse while they are drawing the blood. Then they roll the needle around looking for the vein again. This hurts more then on little stick in my hand, and I usually end up with a large lump afterward. After a few times of this I became very persistent on how my blood is drawn.

you can try exercise and plenty of water,

but you might just have small veins, of course you might try some vitamin C to open them up some,
