Do people who eat a vegetarian diet generally weigh less?

Either lacto ovo vegetarians or vegans. Do they generally weigh less than meat eater?

Not always, lots of fat in nuts. In my experience they do usually have more gas.

I have an 80% vegan diet and I can see I've been loosing weight from when I was meat eater, so i guess they do weight less.

everybody's metabolism is different, i eat meat and junk food and i only weigh 165lbs

No. Think of cows, rhinos, horses...

One winner of the Mr Universe competion was even a vegetarian.

I don't know the answer to this question but it is something I have noticed since I stopped eating meat and only eat fish.

I guess there is a lot of fat in meat and maybe us veggies are more aware of what we are putting in our body? The meat alternatives are REALLY low in calories so perhaps that is another reason.

Hard to say but I will watch this post as I am curious myself

depends. I know vegetarians who have a dreadful diet, often consisting of fries and cheese. not conducive to being slim.

on of my teachers was a vegatarian for 20 years and he was obese

well herbivores, [ organisms that don't eat meat], have to eat more then omnivores,[ organisms that eat both meat and fruits and vegetables] and carnivores, [organisms that eat ONLY meat] in order to obtain energy and a healthy lifestyle. but the food they consume is easier to digest and much healthie for the body. and since most vegetarians don't want to eat meat they stay in good health. so i hope this answers your question

not really, for asian vegetarians, most of the vegetarian food are rather oily

Yes, because people who are vegetarians generally are trying to eat more healthy anyway, so as a whole then vegetarians weigh less than non vegetarians. That's not to say though, that non vegetarians aren't healthy, its just that vegetarians tend to care more about what they are eating than the average person.

yes because fruits and vegetables have less fats but more carbohydrates that are good for you

Maybe because they eat more of their veggies. I dk.

In general yes...however....

You certainly can be a fat vegetarian. It takes one to know one---I am currently losing a lot of weight, but I've been veggie for ten years. I believe that a lot of us are still overweight because we leave the meat component but substitute it with a lot rice, potatoes, and flour---aka the "bad carbohydrates."

There are of course vegetarians who over indulge on things like junk food and peanut butter too.
