How is an ayurvedic diet different to a vegetarian diet?

How is an ayurvedic diet different to a vegetarian diet?

Ayurveda is an Indian science which looks at what foods are best for your body and Indian medicinal herbs. An Ayurvedic practitioner will decide what your constitution is. There are three basic constitutions, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. You can be one type of constitution or a combination of two or all three.

Based on your constitution your Ayurvedic practitioner will then give you foods that suit your constitution and tell you foods that aggravate your constitution. You eat the former and avoid the later.

Eating Ayurvedically also means having all of the tastes (Sweet, sour, bitter, salty, astringent, pungent) at every meal as well as satisfying all of the senses, one of the reasons why Indians eat with their hands.

Ayurvedic diet makes no distinction between the eating of meat and vegetables. Although a large proportion of the diet will be based around spices, vegetables and pulses. Of course you can eat Ayurvedically and still be vegetarian.
