Are any diabetics on a vegetarian diet? If so - does it work? |
I am really thinking of doing better at going veg......does it work - or is it hype? I would definitely seek the advice of a diabetic nutritionist. They are out there are they know EVERYTHING about what you need to eat and how to control your blood sugar. This is somewhat complex so I'd go to her/him for help. She/he would be on an outpatient Diabetic Management Team. Easy to find in a Med Center. I am a diabetic and have also been a vegetarian all my life. I dont think it makes any difference. Its just how much u eat not whether it is veg/nv. And basically meat is more protein than any other compound. I'm a vegetarian, but not diabetic. A recent study shows that a vegan diet will reverse type-2 diabetes. It's no a question of veg or non-veg diet. It's all about maintaining a normal, well-balanced lifestyle. You can be veg and still get or have diabetes. You can be non-veg, have diabetes and still live well. The long and short of it, is controlling your life, diabetic or not, sick or not. It's one of life's many choices. |
