Is ketosis possible on a high protein vegetarian diet? |
I plan on adding fats from high fat vegetables, nuts, seeds and healthy oils. My main protein source will be from assorted brown and wild rices, along with an assortment of high protein beans for a complete amino acid profile. Im not opposed to adding a vegan protein powder, like 'Vega', hard-boiled eggs or whatever else is suggested - aside from chicken meat. I still love meat, yet Im taking a break for awhile. It looks like you are trying to do a modified version of Atkins, and that won't work. Seems to me that any time your body is searching for an alternative fuel source because of a lack of carbohydrates in your sysytem and you start burning fats you will enter ketosis. on paper it seems possible although the term "high protein vegetarian diet" is not exactly accurate. the bioavailability of non-animal protein sources is low at about an average of 55%. so say a 3.5 oz serving of lentils has 25 grams of protein after digestion only 12 grams remains usable for biological processes. that being the case I would definetly be adding soy isolates to your daily diet to bring up the usable protein intake. Yes, ketosis is possible on that diet because it is not easy to create the complete protein balance from many of the foods, unless they are organic, grown on fertile soil and are not genetically modified. That is becoming harder and harder to find these days. |
