How can I gain weight on a vegan diet??

I am 17 years old and I ahve been vegan for a couple of months now. I am about 5 foot 11 inches and I weigh 126 pounds. I did not loose that much weight while on this vegan (mainly raw foods) diet but I have always been skinny and I need to gain weight. I have seen vegan people (like Dr. Richard Schulze) who have a proper weight so I know I can have one too. As it said online, I ought to be more like 160 or so, if that is true. Please tell me what I can do to weigh more.

eat lots of pasta, nuts and bread and rice

a big juicy steak, lol no im kidding, try eating more proteins like in peanuts or if you can eat eggs im not sure

Scientifically, yes you can gain weight. Practically, maybe not. You see, it just has to do with your body storing the different forms of energy. As it happens, things that vegans eat contain the building blocks that fats (lipids) contain as well. However, they aren't the same. There are not as many saturated fats in a vegan diet, and the complete lack of glycogen makes it more difficult for the body to automatically pack on glycogen (which is what bodies pack on). Instead, with plant matter, it's all converted into monosaccharides--the body would have to convert it into glycogen FROM monosaccharides to gain weight. It's just harder, and takes some "upmph" to get the molecules to bond. So it could happen, but kind of hard.

Well, I really don't know. Vegetarian, you could do stuff with all sorts of dairy products and such, but vegan, I guess just cook it in lots of plant oil. I would suggest increasing caloric intake so that your body does have the "upmph" to bond into glycogen.

Nuts and avocados have high amounts of heart-healthy fat. Find hearty vegan foods and eat those.

Many teenagers have a very high metabolic rate and so find it difficult to gain weight but as they grow older, they start putting on weight naturally. Check out http://www.myweight.info for more information on gaining weight.
