Is a Vegan Diet good for diabetes?

I have recently heard that a vegan diet would cure diabetes. Is there any evidence of this that can be found/ What percent of vegans are diabetic? I appreciate any input on this subject from those of you with information. Have a wonderful weekend and a fabulous LORD's DAY! Thank you, Eds, A Simple Christian .

Pangel and KatyZo,
I am a type 1 diabetic of more than 40 years. I have done more reseascr on the topic than most medics that I have been with. Their expertise is NOT diet at all. I have an allergy to some milk products that has been with me since birth and the research that I have read found that every type 1 diabetic also has this to be the case. I watched a newscast that a gentleman told that he had and could cure diabetes from a change of diet to EXCLUDE all meat products and biproducts. I believe that this is a vegan diet essentially. I will get HIS name and include it here.

is that type 1 or type 2 Eds
type 2 is diet controlled and may benefit from a vegan diet
type one needs carbohydrates in order for the insulin to take effect , so a vegan diet would be very difficult with type 2
I would definitely ask your doctor about this before taking anyones opinion on it though

Not necesserily because what harms diabetics is all kinds of sugar and vegans can eat fruit and that is bad for diabetics.

I don't have diabetes but my mother does, so I have been looking into highly-rated books that discuss how to not only control but whip Type II diabetes. I am assuming you are Type II? I have included links to a few books on Amazon that you may find helpful. In case the links don't work, the books are...

1. The Whole Foods Diabetic Cookbook by Patricia Bertron
2. Vegan Menu for People with Diabetes by Nancy Berkoff
3. Death to Diabetes by DeWayne McCulley (very grim cover and title on this one, but the ratings are awesome)

Just remember, as a diabetic it is important to get plenty of protein. This CAN be done on a vegan diet, but you really need to do your research. Best wishes!

Hey , I don't know , if you believe it will ,then it will. you know my is type 1 also , for over 40yrs,too. He just claims the healing everyday. When you and he total believe that you're healed it will come to pass. Continue to eat well and
GOD BLESS

a vegan diet will make you use much less insulin and feel much better. i don't know that it will cure you totally but it will help tremendously. there is a good one below.

For a while my roommate/best friend ate vegetarian so I went along for the ride.
I am a type one diabetic . What I found while I followed this diet was I counted all my exchanges and watched my nutrient levels like a hawk . This alone provided relief from some sugar problems and lead to better control.
The closest thing I have heard of as a cure for diabetes was in Brazil where they grew some stem cells from the recipiants own blood gave the recipiant chemo to surpress the immune system and then the cells.
As of yet it is working. Only 13 patients had the procedure.
There are ways of getting good control be it a vegan diet but as for a cure the above listed is the only thing I've heard of and its very early into the research. It does however give me tremendous hope and make me smile
I may be wrong on the exact details it was in one of those msn health articles ..
Good luck

After a myocardial infarction 10 months ago I am in the pre-diabetic state. For one month alone I took about a spoon and a half of soaked Trigonella foenum-graecum seeds and they brought my fasting blood sugar level. Otherwise I eat non-veg very moderately (as an Indian with a predominantly veg diet of rice, wheat and vegetables) with only small helpings of chicken or fish once per week. That meets my protein requirment.
The Trigonella foenum-graecum had to be discontinued as it produces colds and sore throat in the long run - it is a terrific coolant of the body and not by allergy or anything.

not neccessarily.....sugar is vegan and is certainly not appropriate for diabetes.....

There is no proof that vegetarians are less prone to diabetes. It is the sugar and carbo hydrates that are villains.Avoid use of sugar, take protein oriented diet.Avoid rice, sweets and chockos.Do brisk walking for 30 to 40 minutes daily.Vegetarian diet reduces the intake of fat compared to meat or chicken and in that way vegan style will be healthier, but not CURE for diabetes

If you want to be cured of allergies that you think are causing your diabetes, try the NAET technique. Within 24 hours an allergy can be removed. I've done it and it works. Try this site and find a doctor in your area. I traveled and hour and a half to see mine and it was well worth it. Good luck.

I was in the hospital for pan-ulcerative colitis for the 4th time in less than 2 years and the "doctor" told me that he needed to remove my colon. Like you I had read ALOT and I knew that I wanted to give something else a shot. I couldn't eat any dairy, fat, etc... now I eat everything and anything I want. That's all due to the NAET treatments.

And you're absolutely right, you probably do know more about your body and disease better than any doctor you've seen.

Eating particular diet will not guarantee the cure of diabetes because this disease is a lifetime disease, it will help if you learn to manage your diet, lifestyle and aspects in your life.. having this disease is just simply controlling your level of consumptions of sugars, fats, and meats.. the key word was eat a balance diet to control any possible complications you may encounter.. but base on the research of Dr. jau fei chen of the science of nutritional immunology our immune system is the best thing to defends us from all sort of diseases, but what food best enhance our immune systems to fight those diseases, cactus juice extract plus nutriact made from 5 different mushrooms will surely boost our immunity...
