Vegan diet... bad for diabetics? |
ive read artciles saying that vegan diabetics arent as insulin dependent as non vegan diabetics??? true?? can any one tell me? Personally for me I'm not a vegan however I've seen & heard of vegans that have been vegans all their lives die from cancer. So that tells me even the vegan diet's no good in the prevention of cancer and other illinesses. I eat both meat and vegetables. A vegan diet isn't very good for you because you aren't getting the protein you need. It can weaken your bones and muscles so i think a vegan diet isn't a good one. You might need some strength for your diabetic problems. Sorry if i don't know much. most vegans develop health problems because certain B vitamins are not found anywhere in the vegetable kingdom. You need an animal source for these vitamins. milk eggs cheese etc. without them your nervous system and other bodily functions slowly shut down. Vegan diet can go either way. I know a few vegans who are really healthy, but I also know few vegan that aren't. vegan diet is bad for no one. ask your doctor for nutritional counseling -this will answer all of your questions. I don't know a lot about a vegan diet (other than you don't eat any animal product including dairy) but i know a lot about diabetes (my younger sister was diagnose when she was 6, she's now almost 15, and i live with her and used to babysit her) A diabetic can still eat a vegan diet, it will just be more difficult. Diabetics have to monitor their cab intake... thats really the only dietary restriction (especially if you're on an insulin pump, they're amazing!) You can eat whatever type of food you want as long as you are eating a certain amount of carbs each day at the right times. obviously vegans don't get some of the nutrients found in meat and dairy, so you would have to take a dietary supplement. I'm not sure how those would affect blood sugar for a diabetic though, so you should talk to your doctor or diabetic nutritionalist about it. That's ridiculous. Diabetics need complex carbohydrates and protein. No simple carbohydrates, which is mostly what the vegan diet is - french fries. I have tried with patients in the hospital on a strict regime to regulate diabetics foolish enough to insist on being vegetarians, and the hospital dietician finds it impossible to plan a reasonable diet. Now, if the patients eats cheese, drinks milk, and eats eggs it can be done. yes because you need protein. protein helps your body heal itself when you are sick or have a cut. |
