Should I try a Vegan diet???

I am 16 and very overweight, I have high blood pressure and Cancer and Heart disease runs in my family.. I was told vegans live longer and are healthier and are less at risk for these diseases. Should I try it? Or would I be better off on the meat diet I鈥檓 on?

It sounds like you need a vegan diet. Just look at vegan concerns on page below so you get enough B-12. Most vegans are not overweight and rarely get cancer. See site below for all the facts on why this diet is healthy and why raw vegan is even healthier. Americans know little about nutrution which is why our country is so fat.

try the vegan diet it would bo good for ur health

maybe.

anything is worth a try

First try a lean meat and dairy plan -- this is hard enough! That means no beef, unless it's a super lean.. You she see no white lines at all in the uncooked meat. No hamburger except perfectly red, ultra lean. You might like low-fat yogurt better than just drinking skim milk.

Chicken breast and turkey breast and canned tuna in water are all very lean and high in protein. Pork chops with all visible fat cut off -- same thing.

Oddly, eggs are a good diet food even though they have fat, because they give you lots of protein and they're satisfying -- especially hard boiled eggs.

Also, how much can you cut down on soda, juice and sweets? Water is a boring drink, but soda and juice are pretty much like spooning sugar into your gullet, plus they make you desire more soda and juice. Same with candy and dessert -- they are so yummy, but they increase your longing for candy and dessert.

You can still be fat on a vegan diet, because vegans eat a lot of beans for protein, and a lot of starches to feel full. Also, oils are not off limits and they are very dense in calories. Being vegan doesn't equal being slim.

Vegans benefit from not eating animal fat, which is harmful in large amounts especially if you have a family history of life-threatening conditions.

It's very hard for a kid to be vegan, because kids don't cook that much. Ask your parents to cook more plain vegetables, and to let family members add their own butter to things at the table instead of including the fat in the cooking.

Absolutely try it! I have been a vegan for eight months, and I highly recommend it! If you are looking to lose weight, though, just vegan is not enough. Although it is not required for the vegan diet, I do not eat any grain unless it is 100% whole. I also do not have any refined sweeteners.

I suggest you try the paleo diet, however you could be setting yourself up for failure if you change your diet too drastically overnight and you should not expect to see the fat melt away. It is much better to lose the fat gradually through small changes in your diet over a longer period ie a year as opposed crash dieting or any other extreme approach. Realize that in order to be truly successful, you have to make some permanent changes to your diet. I suggest you start by cutting back your consumption of potatoes, rice, beans, bread and pasta. These are very calorie dense foods and should only be eaten in very limited quantities if at all. Slowly replace these types of foods, particularly processed crap with more healthful options like fresh vegetables and fruit - they should be eaten raw or only partially cooked (el dente) otherwise you lose much of their benefits.

Drink lots of water (8 oz per waking hour) and cut back or cut out soda, juice and milk, unless it is fat free.

The second aspect of becoming healthier is be more active. Start with walking - find a walking partner and go for 30 minute walks every day - try to make it a brisk walk. This will help your cardiovascular system and as you become able to be more active, you can increase the intensity of the exercise to help burn off some of your fat stores.

There aren't any shortcuts to maintaining good health, it takes dedication, perseverance, discipline and the willingness to make healthful changes to your diet. I've often heard people say if something doesn't taste good they won't eat it, but keep in mind that you eat to live, not live to eat. And that it is not about eating foods that taste good, but eating foods that are good for you. The father of medicine, Hippocrates wrote "let the best foods be your medicine".

Listen, at 16, your body is still growing, and needs a balanced diet to develop properly. Going vegan isn't healthy at your age, however there are some things you can do. Stay away from red meats like beef, and fried foods. Try eating more fish, and use olive oil instead of butter. One serving of meat fits in the palm of your hand, remember that. Try eating more vegetables and fruits. Less meat and more veggies on your plate is a really easy way to have a healthier diet. Numerous studies actually show that eating between 5-10 servings of vegetables and fruit actually helps prevents cancer. Drink water. Milk is good for you too, if you're concerned about the fat, just buy 1% or skim.
