I'm thinking of doing a low fat, vegan diet. Any advice?

I need to lose weight, generally, and specifically for a holiday next month.
I've read about the mcDougall diet, which is a fat free vegan diet.
This seems pretty extreme, but people seem to swear its good and gives you energy.
Should I be thinking about this?
I don't like meat that much, so going on an atkins type thing is not an opton for me. And I eat mostly vegetarian meals anyway.

Anyone got any advice/ alternatives?

It may be daft, but I need to lose weight fast!

A vegan diet can help, certainly, but remember that the best and safest way to lose weight is gradually. If you lose fast, you tend to gain it back just as fast, with interest. A pound or so a week is plenty, give your body a chance to adjust.
If you are serious about veganism, check out www.vegweb.com for some excellent recipes and articles on the subject. They also have a good Q and A board. Once you eliminate animal fat from your diet, you will need vegetable fats such as avocado, olive oil etc--everyone needs a small amount of fats in their diet.
Diet alone won't do it, though, you need exercise too to stay in shape.

And after your holiday- Are you going to start pigging out again? Are you wasting our time? If not, don't try Vegan, try eating less but it's probably too late if you're off in a month.

DON'T
Diets are known not to work because they are a fad or at the time
thing.
Changing your eating habits and exercise even simple daily walk
should be a Life Change that you can stick to, if not you just go back to the old habits and gain it all back....on again off again dieting is destructive to the body and keeps it in confusion. Try
getting the fast food and chemicals out of your system with some
organic food with no toxins to get you hooked into cravings.

If vegan, add 1 avocado, beans, peas, lentils, pumpkin, broccoli & mushroom, as well as oranges. See http://choosediet.blogspot.com/ pick one and snack on celery sticks, the occasional carrot stick or slice of cucumber in vinegar, several small meals, plenty of water, a glass 20 mns before a meal.

Dont do it.
