Have any of you tried the "raw vegan" diet? If so, what do you think of it?

Its where you eat nothing but raw fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, oils, and superfoods. Ive tried it once and lost a ton of weight! I was 5'0 and weighed 109 and dropped down to 90 pds. Now im back to a vegeterian diet and I'm at 105 pds. I was just thinking about going back to it but I'm not sure...

Hi Melrose...

The reason many people lose weight when eating raw foods is because they're eating whole foods -- most raw foods don't come in packages at the grocery store, as you probably already know. ;O)

I like a raw vegan diet, but it can be very time consuming. So I simply try to add some raw foods to my diet every day, whether in the fom of fruit or sprouts or avocado, etc.

Might I recommend the sweet spot in between raw vegan and vegetarian? Plain ol' vegan. I've been vegan for many, many years and have maintained my weight and look and feel younger than my actual age.

By the way, it's a fallacy that you need meat for protein. Plants provide plenty of protein -- it's what gives them their structure. Beans and whole soy foods, like tempeh and edamames, are also a great source of protein. In fact, protein is found so freely in the vegan diet, that it would take too much time to list them all here.

Where you get into trouble is when you don't find other ways of replacing the nutrients you need. Many people just go vegan, omitting the animal products, and don't give any thought to building meals that provide the protein, healthy carbs and fats that your body craves. Just because you omit animal products, doesn't mean your food choices are healthy. Some candy bars and other sweets are vegan, but they're not healthy -- see what I mean?

Focus on whole foods like veggies, fruits, beans, grains, nuts and seeds. Try to avoid pre-packaged foods as much as possible since they're usually filled with additives, preservatives, excess sugars, and unhealthy fats.

I've created a website (below) that teaches my fellow vegans how to create vegan foods EASILY so you can stick to your diet and remain a vegan success story. Check it out.

Hope this helps. :O)

Been rawvegan for a month and a half and had cravings on frenchfries and bagels ate it then realized it doesn't taste good after all.once you go raw u won't go back.my first week of being raw vegan i didn't like the taste of mashed potatos because i could taste the metal pot it was cooked in. Report It

oh yea that darkness guy is wrong you can gain muscle if you eat enough flaxseeds you gain fat which you have to work out to get muscle. And no i don't take vitamin capsules. Report It

A rew vegan diet is extreamly healthy, but you are missing out on a lot of protein and other nutrients meat gives you. If you dont want to go back to meat take vitamins. Typically vegans weigh less than those who eat meat, but it is harder for them to gain musscle from the lack of meat.

yes it was alright but then i became weak and i had less energy

if it worked the first time do it agin.
