Has anyone tried a raw vegan cleansing diet? What is your experience?

I am thinking about kick-starting the diet with an organic juice and psyllium intro for one to three days to get used to not eating unhealthy, fattening foods.

I don't do raw, as I do cook my whole wheat pasta, brown rice, boil potatoes (or bake them), and steam my frozen veggies.

However, when I eliminated junk from my diet and became vegetarian, and eventually vegan, I weaned myself from the junk. I didn't have it every time I wanted it, and spaced out the times I ate it. (I did the same with smoking.) One thing that helped me was learning from where the foods (rather "foods") came.

Personally, I think consuming just liquids, even short term, isn't too healthy as the food doesn't stay long in the system and one may not get the nutrients one needs. (This is just what I think.) While you might be getting fruit nutrients from the juice, what about vegetables, whole grains, etc.? I'm not denouncing healthy liquids. I drink soy milk and juice when I need something in my system quick when I've not eaten in awhile and want to get something quickly to my baby (I'm pregnant.)

Overall, switching may not be too bad. Switch white bread with whole grain; The same with pasta and rice. Boiled or baked potatoes instead of fries or chips. Even veggie burgers instead of beef or turky burgers. (Some brands, like Morningstar Farms and Gardenburger taste very veggie. However, Boca, I think, is formulated to somewhat mimic beef. I don't care for Boca as well, but I will buy what is cheapest when I want some.) Some veggie products, like the chik'n patties and the Morningstar Farms chick'n strips are very good.

For more advice and ideas, go to the Vegetarian & Vegan sub-section under the Food section.

I've never had a problem on an all-raw vegan diet, in fact this is the ideal diet in my opinion. But I make sure to get a wide variety of foods and that the healthy foods are always available.

Juice fasting is more difficult for me, personally, though. The first few days I have trouble concentrating and then by day 4-5 I begin to have more energy and the cloud begins to disappear.

I would substitute senna tea for the psyllium because I find it to be too abrasive.

This site has a free course on cleansing with organic juice. The first day of the course covers this topic: http://devotedtohealth.com
