I've been a vegan for three years and I've broken a bone in my foot - is this likely to be because of my diet? |
This is something I've been wondering about. I've been a vegan for just over three years, and I think I eat a fairly good diet, but the choice of food is very limited where I live and shop. The injury that caused the bone to break was very simple and didn't feel that serious. I've certainly had worse injuries and I've never broken anything before. I can't help but wonder if this is related to not eating dairy products. Does anyone know if vegans have a higher risk of breaking bones? Has anyone ever stopped being a vegan for this reason? Well, if you've been a vegan for three years, how come you have not yet discovered that the human body really has no need for dairy products? i have not had any dairy products in 28 years and i havent broken a bone because of it..maybe you are not adding any calicum from other sources into your diet but most likely it was just a break..breaks happen sometimes from small things Meat has a lot of readily absorb-able calcium, so I guess it's possible. If you look at the over all nutrtion you miss from being a vegan breaking your foot could very well be cause of you diet. Milk like meat provides calicium and iron which helps bones stay strong. Milk, it does a body good! What's your primary calcium source? Steak is calling... lol j/k. I could never be a vegan; i <3 steak and cheese and such. It could be just a bizarre break. I actually broke 2 bones in my hand from catching a football, just randomly, i've had much worse happen to me, such as having a 15 pound jar of pennies fall on my foot, nothing happened. |
