Vasectomy????

does anyone know about the vasectomy laws in Arkansas I have been told by many people if the man is married that he has to have his wife signature to get the vasectomy done
just wondering if there is any truth behind this???

Not true, but Statutes in Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia requie the written consent of the patient's spouse to voluntary sterilizations.Current legal opinion allows voluntary sterilization on persons over age 25 for any indication; on persons below that age for genetic, medicosocial or criminological indications, or when person already has 4 children. Consent of spouse is not needed; wish of person to be sterilized supercedes that of spouse. It is advisable that the physician consult with spouse which was done by defendant in case in question. No objections were put forward by plaintiff's spouse. Consent must be given to procedure with full knowledge of consequences by person upon whom procedure is performed. This consent need not be a written document. Oral consent is legally sufficient; it flows forth from the physician-patient relationship. Court does not recognize written proof of consent as having greater value than an oral understanding. In the case discussed physician acted within the law because patient was counseled, had given consent, and procedure was performed according to good medical practice.

I cant imagine there is a law like that but I have no clue. Call a urology office in your area and they will let you know.

Noo!, heck no, first its the performing doctors moral call if he will do it before u have any kids and he will ask the guy if his wife knows but it wont stop the docotor. I had the procedure in November of 06' but before that i had 2 doctors before him tell me they wouldnt do it because i didnt have any children. So dont believe that, people and offices tried to tell me the same thing

No it is not true at all. Someone is jerking your chain.

I got my vasectomy at age 21, with no kids. My spouse, at the time, disagreed. They never asked for any proof that I had kids. They never asked if my wife agreed.

They can鈥檛 ask for the permission of your wife. That is a violation of federal HIPPA laws. That means all 50 states. If they ask if she agrees, you don鈥檛 have to answer. They can鈥檛 require you to get her signature.

The clinic or the doctor may force his, her, or its own brand of morals on you. Your insurance carrier can do the same (but that won鈥檛 stop you if you pay cash, like I did). No state can tell you that you can鈥檛 get a vasectomy.

Before I got mine, I had two other doctors refuse because I was young, or because I had no kids. Again that was the choice of the doctor, or the clinic. I also think it is a liability thing. Young people, with no kids, will claim that the doctor didn鈥檛 tell them that it is permanent. In light of that, their malpractice insurance may impose rules.
