Vasectomy!!!?

What is the healing phase after a vasectomy like? Is there alot of pain? My doctor said I must be on my back for 48 hours after and must wear a jock strap for a week. Is there a high risk of infection?

Been there, had it. You do have to wear a support for a few days and ice the area to reduce swelling. That said, overall it's not bad. Right after the surgery I wasn't in the best of shape, but by the next morning I was walking around no problem, and within a few days I was pretty much back to my routine. Very low risk of infection as it's done on an out-patient basis.

Sounds like your doc is being cautious, which is not a bad thing. But I had a pretty positive experience overall, and the 'benefits' (no worries) are well worth it!

I realize women can comment on these procedures, but I laugh when they say, "no problem". Right, how about those who end up with several conditions related to after the procedure?
A woman responding would be like me saying Child Birth is a piece of cake. Report It

No. It's not bad at all. More scary then anything. The Dr.s don't even need to put you out, it's done under local anesthesia....

There is a lot of discomfort, it isn't really pain. You'll walk around in a bowlegged fashion. Stay on your back and wear the jock strap. The stitches will usually fall off on their own. Infection shouldn't be a problem if you keep your crotch area dry and clean.

A side effect of a vasectomy is that your testicles will increase in size, from about the size of an olive originally to the size of plums.

What you are feeling is very normal but the procedure is nearly painless. I sat up and watched the whole thing. I had it done on a wednesday and went back to work on friday. Im a firefighter and I just didnt lift anything that day and took it easy by my next shift I was good as new. Do what the Dr says and go home after the procedure and dont do anything except ice down your jewels.

My uncle had it done in the 1980's and he drove himself to the doctor, drove himself home a half hour later, and wrestled with his kids when he got home. He was back at work the next day.

Now my husband is going in for it this summer, and the doc told him he should only miss 1 day of work really, the day of the surgery. Of course I am a woman and cannot speak from my own personal experience, but from those around me, it seems like no big deal at all.
