Vasectomy...?

I'm thinking about asking my boyfriend to get a vesectomy. We both don't want anymore kids, and I want to stop taking birth control. Is this a good idea?

A vasectomy is always a good idea, If you want lots of sex with no worries.

I a so very happy that I had mine, 20 years ago!

Depends on your boyfriend. Discuss it with him and all the other options. Seeing as it is his "scrotal sac" that will be cut into and his vas deferens cut, he's the one you have to convince.

Some guys just can't stand the thought of the procedure, some just say, okay, and get it done.

Talk with him hon, and see how he feels about it. There are still many other ways to prevent pregnancy other than pills. ~

So, he's just your boyfriend? Is this definitely a long-term, committed relationship?

While vesectomies are reversable (a friend of mine's husband got his reversed a few weeks ago), they're not fun and not guaranteed reversible.

Have you talked to your doctor about other ways to prolong birth control other than the pill?

If you are sure about nomore kids vasectomy is one of the best ways not having kids. But it has no turning back. If there is a chance that your boyfriend want to have a kid (or another one) it will be impossible to concieve from the natural way. I know that doctors get sperm from the vasectomy patient and get it frozen but it is not the same thing in phsycologichal way.
And there is another way to control birth is tubectomy. It is done same as vasectomy but not to men. To women. You could do this too instead of your boyfriend having a surgery.

I think the keyword here is 'boyfriend'. Are you planning to get married? What if the relationship doesn't work out and you decide you want more kids with some other guy......... or him some other girl?
How old are you both?

I don't think it is a good idea to get a vasectomy because it is permanent. There are so many forms of temporary birth control that you can take that don't require a pill everyday. Talk to your gynecologist .... as a COUPLE... about your options... and about your thoughts on vasectomy.

You know... it is only fair if he gets a vasectomy, for you to also have a tubaligation.

BOYFRIEND...DON'T WANT ANYMORE KIDS? Why aren't you married? There are many legal ramifications, especially when children are involved, in not being married. Not all states have COMMON LAW MARRIAGE laws (in fact only Alabama, New Hampshire, Colorado, Ohio, District of Columbia, Oklahoma, Georgia, Pennsylvania Idaho, Rhode Island, Iowa, South Carolina, Kansas, Texas and Montana have them....and some have sub laws to those). .
Any doctor worth his salt would LAUGH at you for wanting your BOYFRIEND to get a vasectomy.
If that offends you, oh well.
However, I had one in 1977. Both tubes were cut, a 2cm piece was removed and the ends were cauterized. Best $200 I have ever spent.

Check out www.essure.com This is a new permanent form of female birth control. According to the website it is a 10 minute procedure involving NO hormones and NO incision and is very very reliable, good luck to you in whatever you decide.

It is the cheapest and best birth control known. It carries no risk, or side effects.
