Can all vasectomy's be reversed?

My husband had a vasectomy in 2006 while I was pregnant with my 3rd child. I have told him that I may want to try for a boy in 4 to 5 years when all three of my children are in school. He said that the doctor that did his vasectomy told him that the way he does it is non-reversable. How can some be reversable and some not? Is vasectomy reversal a common procedure? What is the success rate? Thank you for your answers.

A doctor can attempt toe reverse any vasectomy. Yes reversal is common. The chance of success is less than 30%, and it gets less as time goes by. The cost is about 10 grand, and there is no warrentee. No insurance will not cover it.

I vasectomy is quick and simple. A reversal is complicated.

A traditional vasectomy is most likely what the doctor is talking about when he says it can鈥檛 be reversed. That means the doctor has cut out a short segment of the vas tubes, and then burned the ends so they will never grow back together. The reason this type is considered not reversible is there is so little 鈥渟lack鈥?remaining in the vas tubes that they cannot be easily be reconnected.

Newer vasectomies are easier to reverse but are much likely to grow back on their own. The 鈥渃lip鈥?type of vasectomy was supposed to be 100% reversible. However the 鈥渃lips鈥?often fell off, resulting un unplanned pregnancies. The manufacturer of the 鈥渃lips鈥?is no longer in business.

Some doctors will only perform 鈥渢raditional鈥?vasectomies because of potential liability if they fail by growing back.

all can be attempted to be reversed but i had a doctor tell me that just because you do it does not mean it will work. You can allways try but the chances of having kids again is slim

also some docotrs cut the vain and take out a piece others tie it off so it may be difficult depending on the technique the doctor choose

Also the reversal is much more painful the the first procedure and NO insurance pays for the reverasal. You have to pay out of pocket

I think it depends on how they cut the tubes. My brother-in-law got his reversed but his were cut and clipped. I guess some doctors cauterize (sp?) the tubes, which make it difficult to do a reversal. The outcome of my brother-in-law's reversal .... twins!!! lol Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about *all*, but most can be reversed. My husband had his reversed 2 years after the initial vasectomy, and he had most of his count, motility and mobility back within 6 months. Unfortunately, we weren't able to have to conceive after 2 years and quit trying.

The reversal is far more in depth than the vasectomy, and the recovery is a lot harder/longer. Make sure to do all your research before you go ahead with is, that it is something you both truly want, because it was quite painful for my husband.

Good Luck!
