Vasectomy vs. female birth control? |
I am in a tough spot everybody...I been in a relationship for 7 mths with my boyfriend he been on my butt about using birth control pills I'm not too keen on the idea because im extremely scared of the side effects being I'm already anemic and have problems with tightness and leg swelling as it is...he gave me a choice ..he like if i don't do it he will get a Vasectomy which sounds ok...I heard its reversable but there is no guareentee that it can be reversed all the time...and so far i seen this man as my future and being with him for the long haul...he already got 2 toddler kids from a previous relationship and doesn't want anymore kids till he is mentally capable of wanting kids and living more comfortable as far as his career goes...me im not ready to have kids not sure if i want any but down the line i would like the option to have them if im ready too...i love him but im scared the procedure won't reverse..do u think his choice is a right one? help! You should definitely consider a vasectomy as a *permanent* procedure. Sometimes they are reversible, but most insurance companies won't pay for a reversal, and they are *very* expensive. There is also *no* guarantee that the reversal will work. A vasectomy should NOT be considered reversible in any way, shape or form. Vasectomy. Vascectomy is mostly permanent. A reversable is about $10,000, and no guarantee of success. NO, you should never opt for those surgeries unless you are absolutely sure you do not want kids, chances are so slim they can be reversed and you can have an easy time of having kids if you want them. Its also from the sound of it not likely that anyone will put you on a birth control pill due to your symptoms you listed. Your only choice is to have both of you go to a planned parenthood or an OB/gyn and talk about other reliable birth control methods. You can use a sperm cream, female condom / male condom and there are tons of other choices out there. But I do not recommend you go have surgery or him either. Good Luck If I were him, I'd have had a vasectomy a long time ago so I'd cover my own butt about getting another woman knocked up to support. Vasectomy. Frankly, gotta admire a guy who will volunteer for this surgery... I didn't see it mentioned...but if HE want's (I don't see why you should have MUCH say in the matter after a just few months of dating) to get a vasectomy (which is MOST likely NOT reversable) but there is some possibility of wanting more kids down the road why not get some of his "genetic" material frozen and stored? Granted this will require artifical conception (which I'm sure ain't cheap) but it would keep the option open for future disscusion...Flip side...like others said...stick with condoms...they're pretty effective when used properly and generally don't cause much hassel. Birth control pills carry a high-risk. A vasectomy carries almost no risk (less than getting a tattoo, or in-grown toenail removed). Recovery time, from a vasectomy is about 2-5 days. If you get female sterilization, you are taking 3-6 weeks. When you current health is thrown into the mix, it could take even longer. |
