Vasectomy Question?!! :)?

My Husband had a Vasectomy a couple of years ago and I am wondering how many follow up semen analysis are necessary before you no longer have to do them? I thought his Doctor suggested one every year for five years, but after talking to some people, they told me that they went back only the one time and that was that! If anyone has had this procedure done or know someone that has, any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

The First Few Weeks after Surgery

You should not consider, and probably won鈥檛 feel like, resuming sexual intercourse from 72 hours to a couple of weeks following surgery. Before you do resume sexual activity, remember that you will not be considered sterile for several weeks. Until your doctor determines that you are sterile, continue to use an alternate form of birth control.
And you should also remember that a vasectomy does not protect you or your partner from sexually transmitted diseases.
Once sexual activity is comfortable for you, it is important to resume ejaculation, since it takes between 10 and 20 ejaculations before any remaining sperm is released. In fact, sperm can remain in the semen for three to six months following your vasectomy.

You can expect your doctor to advise you when to bring in your first semen sample for examination. This is usually within four to six weeks after your vasectomy. You may be able to collect your seminal specimen at home and bring it directly to the doctor鈥檚 office or lab. Use the sterile containers that your doctor鈥檚 office will provide you for all semen samples.

Doing Your Part

Once seminal analysis begins, you doctor may advise you to ejaculate 10-12 times before collecting and submitting your first, and all subsequent, specimens to your doctor for microscopic laboratory analysis. You can expect to provide semen samples thereafter every few weeks or so.

You are generally considered sterile only after your doctor makes that determination.

According to the paperwork my husband has, it's twice.

My doctor did just the one test afterward and told me that I did not need any more unless I had any significant trauma (i.e. a fall, getting hit) in that area.

Usually one visit, four to six weeks after the operation.

Maybe a visit is necessary, not always, but if has some kind of unusual feeling, uncomfortable on that part of him, or if unusual happened, maybe he should go to be checked by the doctor.

you have to get two negative tests and then you are good to go.

i only went back one time and it has been 3yrs and no baby yet

no usually just two trips after the procedure two weeks apart thats it.

I got mine back in 1989 (I was 21) The technology has improved since then, so I would guess the likelihood of a failed vasectomy is very small today.

I only ever went back once, after about 5 months. We used condoms for at least 6 months. After that we don鈥檛 need any protection. I was with her for another 7 years. Within a month of our split up, she got pregnant. I guess that proves that the vasectomy worked.

I don鈥檛 think you need to go back again.

My ex-husband also had a vasectomy. The vasectomy had nothing to do why he is an ex now. Our doctor told us after he had the procedure that we had to practice safe sex 15 times and then come back and have him checked to make sure all the live sperm was out. We did this and didn't have any problems. I am not aware of any additional testing and I know several people who had a vasectomy and were only tested the one time.

I think you should go to another doctor. If there is no sperm, there is no pregnancy. Your sperm is not going anywhere after a vasectomy and it won't change your sex life either.
