Vasectomy Q's?

Hello
My husband is getting a vasectomy, did anyone, have any bad reactions, did it hurt,

Tell me what happened give me the story, long or short what ever you can offer for assistance

Thanks

MEG

It was quick, and mostly painless. It took only 15 min. I had it done on a Friday afternoon. I drove myself home and to the video rental. Monday, I was back at work. I was fully recovered by the weekend. If it was any more tramatic than that then 1/2 million men would not get them each year in the USA alone.

That was 20 years ago. I have no children, and no regrets. I also have no scar, and never had any residual pain. It was the best thing I ever had done, and the best $250 I ever spent.

The key is to follow instructions. Tell him don't try to have sex, go swimming, play football, or whatever on the first few days.

I hear the 鈥渃lip鈥?type is very painful and slow the heal. Most people agree that the 鈥渙ld school鈥?vasectomy is best.

Edit: I did some reading. If your hubby is getting the "clip" type of vasectomy, he had better re-think it and get the "old school" type.

I was fully recovered and having sex again by the next weekend. Avoiding sex for the first week is about not getting an infection. If he is still a little sore, then he will not be up to having sex. If he does something dumb, and gets an infection, he could be out of co mission for weeks. Report It

Your husband is very brave!!!

Just support him ok!!!

my hubby had one 7 years ago was tender for a couple of days other than that works just the same!!!

A simple procedure, laid on my back, pulled my pants down to my knees, doctor washed area with some sort of disinfectant, give me a shot in the bag (that hurt), made a small slice with a knife, fished around with some tweezers and pulled out a tube. tied string around tube in two places cut tube between string burned ends of tubes pushed back into hole took two stitches, repeat for other side (yes another shot in the bag, yes it hurt again), pulled up pants went home, used icebag on crotch for awhile, alittle uncomfortable but no big deal, look at it this way there are millions of them performed each year GO FOR IT. and don't forget to use some form of birth control until you have been checked for the all clear (of sperm).

I concur with G B's very detailed account (good job, man!).

The main difference I noticed comparing my procedure with G B's is, my urologist gave me an IV sedative (Versed), prior to the local anesthetics ('shots in the sac"..lol). Versed is a wonderful drug. I was still alert. But, feeling so good, I didn't care what the doc was doing! haha Make sure your husband has the option of getting some IV sedation. It will make all the difference in the world.

Yeah, the IV is the way to go. I had mine done at the hospital. It took about 20 minutes except my doc left the small cuts open. They scabbed over the next day. Just be careful in the shower if he doesn't get stitched up. Keep ice and asprin on hand for a couple of days. Remember to wait til the doc says there's no more sperm or keep using birth control until then. Good choice and good luck!!!

My husband had this done after the birth of our 4th child.

He hated the way it made him feel. He always felt pressure in his balls, they always ached. It's a medical condition called "chronic orchialgia".

He had it reversed 5 years later and finally the pressure went away.

I don't think your husband should do it, it's just not worth the constant pressure in the balls. Which affects about 15% of men that have this done....

When a guy gets a vasectomy, a small incision is made in the scrotum. One tube at a time is pulled out, and depending on the type of procedure, it is snipped. My doctor took 2cm off each one and cauterized (burned) the ends. That was in '77. As far as the shot goes, my doc pinched some skin on my scrotum and slid the needle in. It was no more than a pin prick (no pun intended he he).
I had my procedure done on a Friday morning. I laid around all day with an ice pack in a towel on my crotch and was pampered by my very sweet and appreciative wife. Saturday we went to a cook-out at my in-laws with a lot of teasing. My 17 year old sister-in-law asked if she could see the scar when it healed. he he Sunday I laid out most of the day and went to work to my mostly desk job Monday. There was no soreness and after my final sperm count 30 days later, I was declared sterile. The sperms that are produced by the testicles die and are absorbed by the body.
Best $200 I ever spent!
Here are some sites to check out for the procedure.

My hubby had the "old school" V and he developed "PVPS"...that's post vasectomy pain syndrome. It started around six weeks after the V with "back pressure" and continued and intensified as time progressed. It got so bad that even walking was painful. Needless to say, our sex life plummeted. He reversed the V and he, like a pp's husband, was cured but only 80% or so of reversal patients find relief from the problems a vasectomy can cause and reversal is expensive, so beware! We would never recommend a vasectomy to any man; try some other type of bc.

I think you should go to another doctor. If there is no sperm, there is no pregnancy. Your sperm is not going anywhere after a vasectomy and it won't change your sex life either.
