Reverse a Vasectomy?

I had a vasectomy approx. 10 years ago because my wife could not risk another pregnancy due to health reasons....She has since passed away and I am with someone new....we may want to have a child together....Can the vasectomy be reversed? If so does halth insurance normally cover it? If not , how much would it cost?

Hi Greg,
I just answered basically the same question just last night.
I had a vasectomy reversed about 15 years ago, and I had the vasectomy almost 10 years. The doc said I had about 60% chance it would work, he told me I had good tubes. Had to pay for it myself approx. $3500 back then. Was major surgery, had to be knocked out for 3 hours, hate coming out of the anesthia (sp?). Took about 2 months before began shooting sperm again (had my own microscope at home). Took another 6 months to impregnate wife, my son will be 14 this month. Feel free to ask any other questions geo46er@yahoo.com

Yes it can, assuming it was done correctly.

Insurance coverage ????????depends on the insurance.

Go have a chat with your doctor !

Depends if the tubes were cut and then burn`t or a length of tubing was removed ,As these 2 can cause problems
Reversing a Vasectomy is done regularly but may take a time to start to produce sperms again.
I don`t` think many insurance policies cover reversal but some may ,
Cost depends on where and who operates

It can be reversed but of course is not 100% guaranteed. I used to work in a urology office, and health insurance does NOT pay for them and you had to pay the doctor in full up front. Depending on the area where you live will determine the charge. In southern Maryland, the charge was $2,000.00.

My advice is to adopt.

Getting a vasectomy reversed is unethical as best. Your chances of success are about 25%. Why go though needless pain? Besides you made a choice not to have more children. If you get it reversed you are not facing the consequences of your choice. How can you teach your children about actions and consequences if you don鈥檛 face them yourself? That sounds like bad parenting in the worst way.

BTW: I know people that have had failed reversals. They say reversal is physically a lot more painful than the original vasectomy.

I think you should go to another doctor. If there is no sperm, there is no pregnancy. Your sperm is not going anywhere after a vasectomy and it won't change your sex life either.
