Vasectomy vs Tubal Ligation?

What are the pros/cons of a male having a vasectomy and a female having her tubes tied?

That question is simple:

Vasectomy pros: Dirt cheap, 15 min surgery, 2-5 day recovery

Vasectomy cons: Some men fear "loosing half their manhood" (purely psychological). Men are wimps when it comes to surgery.

Tubal pros: Women are not so sensitive about "loosing half their womanhood"(purely psychological). Women are not "wimps" when it comes to surgery.

Tubal cons: Higher cost, 3 weeks recovery, Some women go into depression for months afterward (purely psychological).

If your man is some kind of "macho man" who fears the color pink, and won't hold your purse for you for fear of any other man seeing him, then forget it. He is not going to get it. If he is an educated and rational thinker, then he won't have any problem getting a vasectomy.

Its more fun to watch him go through some pain. =)

Ive heard there is more healing time for the males, but it is much more simpler.

Well, one big difference is that a vasectomy is a minor procedure that can be done in the doctors office, where a tubal ligation is major abdominal surgery that requires at least three days in the hospital as a rule. Women who have tubal ligation also stand a lot higher risk of developing problems later with extra heavy periods or a disrupted cycle that causes periods more frequently. It's amazing the number of hysterectomys that are done post tubal ligation, just to solve those problems. Men on the other hand, don't seem to have any sorts of troubles after a vasectomy. It doesn't change how anything works, except for the lack of sperm. Obviously the vasectomy costs a lot less than the tubal ligation as well. If it were me, I'd say snip the fellow and keep your tubes intact.

Healing time is much less for a man, usually return to work the next day. It's a surgical procedure for a woman with a recovery time of 3-5 days. Much more complicated and painful for a woman. Men have it done under local anethesia, woman have to go under general anesthesia.

Risks for tubal ligation include:

Incomplete closure of the tubes, which could result in woman getting pregnant in the future -- approximately 1 out of 200 women who have had tubal ligation get pregnant later

Increased risk of an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy if pregnancy occurs after a tubal ligation

Injury to nearby organs or structures caused by surgical instruments

Vasectomy

All surgery involves some risk, but the chance of serious problems is small with vasectomy. Most postoperative complications of vasectomy are minor and can be treated with mild non-aspirin pain killers and local application of ice. The following problems will usually subside within 1-2 weeks:
Swelling and/or tenderness of the scrotum
Bruising
Pain

More significant complications are generally quite rare, but include:
An infection or swelling around the incision(s) or inside your scrotum.
Bleeding under the skin that might cause swelling or bruising.
Sperm granulomas, which are small lumps that form when sperm leak from the vas into the surrounding tissue. The majority of sperm granulomas are asymptomatic. In some cases, they require surgical treatment.

A vasectomy is an office procedure, while tubal ligation is a full-blown operation. That alone should be enough to make the decision. Because unless I were already on the operating table, say for a C-section or something, I wouldn't do it.
