Vasectomy鈥檚 - Can they cause a decrease in sexual arousal?

My husband got a vasectomy in November. Ever since, his sexual arousal has decreased鈥ot the actual function of sex - just getting him in the mood and to be totally honest, I am getting quite frustrated with it. I thought that we would both want it more knowing that we couldn't get pregnant!

Anyone have any issues with this as well?

--No, he's not cheating but thanks for asking :~)

it shouldn't

you should of known what would happen if you clipped his *boys* ...its the same with animals..clipping a dog makes him less aggressive, same with Humans.

No it doesn't. If his sexual desire has dropped, it is because he's convinced himself that it's dropped. The human mind is easily fooled. Deep down, he probably resents having to get the vasectomy (the big baby).

It has nothing to do with sex drive. And the moron who compares it to a dog, what an idiot. They don't remove anything. They simply cut the line that the sperm would move through. It changes nothing hormonally.

no that has nothing to do with it you just have to have more foreplay and he should be fine or maybe he is stresses out try to do things that he likes and dont give up!

I got one years ago and now I'm in my 60's. I've maintained an active sex live ever since. I found no change after the procedure, and neither should your husband. He may be experiencing a psychological reaction knowing he cannot father any more children, but that's in his head (the one on his shoulders) and that may bring down his sex drive. A counselor might give more assistance than use of drugs, sex toys, or "vitamins".

There are more myths than truths about vasectomies. They get the blame for everything that ever happens to men. Trust me, the vasectomy has nothing to do with his problem.

I got mine 20 years ago. I鈥檓 over 40, and still known as a 鈥渉orn dog鈥? Any affect, on arousal can only be psychological. He may be having issues with it. Some men do. They often feel that they are not men anymore, because they can鈥檛 make babies. I never had this happen because I never wanted kids (that is why I had my vasectomy at age 21).

You might want to just boost his ego. Let him know how much you enjoy sex, or let him know how much you love it when he surprises you with sex. That should clear his crisis. Rent a convertible (say a Jeep), and go for a spin. Suggest to him that you want to have sex in the car!

BTW: It is getting hot now. It might just be that. Sex is off my list when I just got done mowing the lawn, or some other outdoor chore. It can wait for me to cool down, and have a nice shower.

Had mine done in the 60's I'm just as horny today as I was then

Sexual drive should still be the same. Take a look at this and make him read as well. Talk to him to have more foreplay with you. Spice up your sex life with the tips that you ever heard before.

Lisa,

But for a couple of idiots, what you read here is absolutely correct and mostly first hand.

I would like to add one more thing un-mentioned and that is of the manner in which the two vas tubes were cut. Some doctors have a preference and rarely explain the options.

One way is to cut about 1/8th of an inch out of each tube and to tie the four ends created at the very ends. The piece removed is usually sent to a lab for verication.

This method is not foolproof, believe me. If your husband has enough pressure during ejaculation he can actually pressure thru the ties and even create a new tunnel thru that small space of flesh between the ends.

If so, he will feel pain during ejaculation and surely develope dis-interest.

The second method is to cut away the 1/8th amount and then fold over the four ends and then tie them. This is the preferred and most successful and painless method.

Check with his doctor to find what method was used.

If his scrotom is large he may also feel pain outside of intercourse because the vas tubes also do carry some support of the scrotum...before being cut. If so, and he wears boxers, have him change over to briefs and soon the daily pain will be gone and forgotten.

Other than that, the answers given by first hand experience here are exactly what further action I would suggest as well.

Don't give up on him, Lisa...be patient and compassionate and surely your life will return to normal.

nope. shouldn't at all. have him talk to his doctor. that's very uncommon.
