Vasectomy at 21, right choice?

I'm 21 years old seriously considering a vasectomy. I don't want kids but I stay sexually active. I protect myself but accidents happened before and I don't want to keep risking my future. Right choice? Give me your opinion!
ps: I'm pretty sure my mind is not going to change once I fall in love.

I got mine at 21, just before I turned 22. I have never been happier with any other choice in my whole life. I am now 41, with not a single regret. My girlfriend did the same when she was in her 20s. We belong to a "Childfree" club. All the members are couples with no children. Nobody has regrets.

It is better to regret never having children, than to regret having them, like many of my friends, whom have children do.

I have never met anyone that changed thier mind.

Good luck

What happens when you meet "the one" and she wants kids. I saw this on tv the other day. I think that is a tough decision for any man. You have to realize that for ONLY up to six years it is reversible (with no certainty of a full reversal). Really only you can make this decision.

You think you have it all figured out now, but you will change your mind about everything including having children several times by the time you are 35. You are not fully mature, even though you think you are. Don't do anything permanent to your body.

i dont think you should do it. you said "i'm pretty sure" you really may change your mind as you get older. 21 is still so young. i would wait until late 20s at least

You're young...you really have no idea what the future holds for you. I couple years ago I was anti-kids, but then my stupid maternal clock started ticking...(I'm 22). Your mind might change, but what if your perfect wife decides that she needs children?

I don't even think doctors will perform it on such a young age...just keep safe - use condoms and ask the girl if she's on the pill (don't be afraid to ask!).

I'd wait a couple years, maybe when you get into your thirties or fourties and your life has settled down (wife, house, career, etc.) - then consider it.

Well, I think there could be an age requirement. I know someone who got one and he had to wait until he was 24. It is reversible should you change your mind. You are young and it's highly possible you could change your mind down the road, but only you can make this decision for yourself. Good Luck

I made the decision at 11 yrs old, not to have kids...I turned down a few men because I wouldn't change my mind.
If you REALLY don't want kids, chances are you're gonna have to find some woman like me, so you don't have to have any....and we're few and far between.

I really think that you are too young for a vasectomy. I'm not even sure the Dr will perform the surgery on you just because of your age. Your only 21 yrs old... You still have a whole life time ahead of you yet. You may say you don't want children right now, but someday as you get older your going to wish you had children. Think long and hard before making a decision you may not be able to reverse.

21 is rather too young to get a vasectomy..People of that age group generally lack good judgment ,prone to boredom, are impulsive, reckless..etc..I'm sure you will feel differently when you reach 30 or older. I advise, wait and think it over a million times..

I'd wait. You would most likely regret it in the future.

You do not have it all figured out ... you are 21.. barely an adult.. you have maybe 80 years ahead of you...If you do not want children it is fine ........ your choice but.... you may change that in the future!
If you get fixed ....well you have no choices if you want a child of your genes.
I would love to talk to a doctor that would give a vasectomy to a 21 year old.
Certainly the world could use less people ...but..........Think hard before that decision

You're still to young to make that decision. You will think very differently when you are 30ish. There are a lot of people who feel they don't want children and most change there mind. But for those who don't there is always a vasectomy when your older. For now, I suggest you just be very careful and don't assume your partner has handled the birth control. Besides I don't believe a reputable Doctor would perform a vasectomy on you without a valid medical reason and it seems that's not the case.
