Vasectomy, where to begin? |
My husband and I are ready for him to get a vasectomy, but don't know where to begin. Does he just go to the regular doctor first? As others have said, your primary for a referal, unless you know a good urologist. We happened to have a good one that was a relation by marriage, so I got better drugs than most, I think. I had valium for the drive there, demerol for the operation, and loracette for the week following. I barely remember it, and it certainly didn't hurt a bit! Ask his regualr doctor to recommend a good urologist, they are the ones who do more vasectomies than others. yes, he will refer you to a specialist He needs to go see a urologist. A urologist is a guy's version of a gynecologist. They'll explain all the risks and responsibilities from there. Your primary can recommend a few to go see and your husband can have the surgery with whomever he's most comfortable with. Good place to start. Your family doctor can recommend a Yes, go to a regular doctor. He'll recommend you to a surgeon, and take a sperm count sample for testing before, and he'll probably want to do several sperm count tests some weeks after as well. You can probably elect for either a local or a general anesthetic. Local worked just fine for me, with a little oxygen that came in handy. He'll be in and out of surgery in under a day, and will probably walk gingerly for a few days to a week, so I'd recommend some time off work. It's not overly painful, nothing that Panadol/Tylenol/over the counter painkillers can't handle. planned parenthood does them on the cheap If you have insurance, then he will need a referral to a urologist from a regular doctor. If you do this you might still have to pay a deductible, or 20%, or whatever. Your husband needs to see a urologist. Even if your "regular doctor" says he does vasectomies, go see a specialist!!! |

i dotn think it really matters on age...as long as u are 18 and can pay for it. ...yes ... depsite what 'Heads up!' says here above me, you will lead a perfectly normal sex life with all things functioning as normal with the exception of being able to produce offspring.... A vasectomy has about a 99.9% effectiveness rate... meaning that, out of 1000 couples who use it as their only birth control, one will get pregnant after a year. Usually, if the vasectomy is going... Mine was fully recovered in a week. I have heard many men claim that they had some pain months later. That usually means they physically exerted themselves (maybe lifted something) a little too... |
