What am I at risk for? Those with med. background come here..?

MOTHER'S SIDE
My grandmother - breast cancer, skin cancer
My mother - high blood pressure, smoker, depression
My aunt (mothers sister) - severe arachnaphobia (Dr. diagnosed)

FATHER'S SIDE
My grandfather - died of heart attack
My grandmother - bad knees, two knee replacements on each knee, very overweight
My father - Wegener's granumalotsis, vasculitis, smoker
My uncle - prostate cancer
My uncle (father's brother) - died of brain aneurysm

SIBLINGS
My younger brother - benign rolandic seizures
My older brother - mild asythma

I am a 16 year old female. My question... what am I at risk for? Are any of the things heriditary? Because my brothers have things, does that mean I could develop the same things later? Should I get medically evaluated more than normal people because of my weird family's things?

Just curious.. anyone with medical knowledge's advice would be appreciated :)

oops forgot my grandfather on my mothers side.. he had very bad back problems. i don't remember what he died from though.. just complications i think.

also my father has had hernias (sp?) i dont really know what they are, and he has scoliosis

Both cancer and heart conditions, as well as obesity are the main things for you to watch out for.

As long as your doctor knows your family history and you have regular check up's, you wont need to worry as much as you are.

Keep yourself healthy by eating healthy, being active and refraining from smoking, drugs and alcohol. Those all contribute over time.

are you fair skinned? what region do you live in? what is your usual diet? there are many factors to consider for any tests. Is the land you live on contaminated?

Wow... so young to be worrying about genetic illnesses. For most of the things you have listed here, there can be explanations for. For example, your paternal grandmother could have her knee problems due to her being overweight. Also, there are many things that could have contributed to your grandfather's heart attack, ie, diet, smoking, stress, etc. If you are concerned with your own health, be sure to live a healthy lifestyle, with a good diet and exercise. Don't smoke or participate in other unhealthy activities of that sort. When you get a bit older, if you are still concerned, just keep up with your doctor in your health, like getting your pap smears, mammograms, checking cholesterol, etc.

As for now, you're just a kid. Don't worry so much.

I would go to your MD,and have a good physical and some screening lab work,to use as baseline. There are some conditions running in the family that could affect you.The cardiovascular disease, that includes the aneurysm, heart attacks,vasculitis,hypertension,obesity,... breast cancer, and some depression have a strong family tendencies. What can you do for yourself is allot. #1 is knowledge, read up on your family's health problems, research on the Internet, don't smoke, eat a well balanced and healthy diet, and have a exercise routine, walking, running, riding a bike etc, doesn't have to cost anything. What affects the family, doesn't mean that it will affect you.Making healthy choices today, and living a healthy life, will go along way to keep you fit and healthy for many years to come. Take care.
