Why are we (in general) in such a quick fix for weight loss instead of good old fashioned exercise? |
I think fitness (with the exceptions of diseases and/or illnesses, or medications for both) is a lifestyle. Some are blessed with good genetics while others have to work harder at it. Regardless, if you want your internal systems to work and your external systems to reflect the same, exercise is the only way. There are exceptions to the rule where surgery may be needed for relief of pressure on internal and external systems, but you will never develop your internal systems (cardio-vascular, skeleto-muscular) or your external systems (physique) without putting in some hard work and eating discipline. There is no easy way... Because we all want an "Easy Button" in life. Exercise is time-consuming and hard work that most people view as a burdon, not a blessing. "We" take the path of least resistance and consumerism makes "us" believe that that we can take a pill and everything will be all better. Because if there was a hard way and an easy way with same results but different "side-affects" most people would take the easier way and say hey ill deal with the rest later cuz rite now i just wanna look good. Society makes us this wat with ideal people and ideal bodies so everyone wants to "ideal" I agree. & I'm tired of seeing all these questions about losing weight. Most of them only want to do it for appearance, not health, & they don't care that they're screwing up their bodies with these "quick fixes". Unfortunately some of the methods used take a toll on their bodies & later they will have health issues. When you're sickly you don't look so good....so really it's defeating the purpose. your right! there is no easy way. We as Americans are getting really lazy. So therefore as an affect from being lazy we are just getting fatter and much more out of shape. Then once we are so overweight we feel louzy. We don't have the energy to exercise, this is where we turn to a pill for a quick fix. You've got to really make your mind up to be healthy and serious about it before you can take that first step. Its a vicious circle. People to start exercising other parts of their body besides their elbow, bending to their mouths! Instant gratification! I agree with you 100%...see the mentality for the majority is fast food & fast weight loss... I agree 100% w/you, unfort. society's way of thinking makes it unacceptable to be overweight so ppl tend to want to lose in the most quickest, easiest way. Unfort. these fads diets or pills that are out there do have side affects and generally are only for losing weight for "now". Alot of ppl believe they'll keep it off once they lose it but doing it in this fashion is really only a "quick fix" as you said. Proper weight loss for maintaining on a long-term basis can really only be achieved w/a lifestyle change, i.e., diet/excercise. No fad diets, no pills will keep you from eating the way you're used to that got you overweight in the 1st place. I personally do not believe in the surgery unless you're extremely obese and it's at the point where it's a life threatening issue for you. I like the hard way. But the trouble is that exercise is only really enjoyable when you are comfortable in your body and how you look. People want the easy way to get to the shape in which they are comfortable doing the harder option. It is hard to keep yourself motivated and going with exercise when it just feels awful the whole time. I always feel my best running when I feel my most confident in myself and most safe in my body. When I don't feel I like the way I look (Maybe you look the same as yesterday but just feel different)Then exercise turns more into a way of punishing yourself rather than an enjoyment. I like the feeling of working hard but prefer it when it is my choice for a challenge and fun than a pressure because I feel awful. |
