Can vaginitis be misdiagnosed?

I went to the ER and was told I have vaginitis. At first I thought the bumps were genital herpes, but I was given an STD free bill health and sent home with some pills. The pills didn't make the irritation go away and now I'm having a problem with burning. I bought Vagisil and its only helping with the itching. Along with that more bumps appeared and they were bigger and burned and itched but they went away after two weeks. The original bumps are still there. Could I have been misdiagnosed with vaginitis and it's actually genital herpes?

Honestly, I can't remember if the doctor said I had Vaginitis or Vaginosis. All I was given was yeast infection meds. No flagyl. The burning got worse after I took the pills.

Possibly. It's not that uncommon to be misdiagnosed, it happens all the time. Vaginitis should not cause the bumps you're describing. But bumps are typical with genital herpes. With vaginitis you would get burning, possible cramps, and a discharge (usually yellow or greenish, unless it's yeast, then it would be whitish). What pills were you given? Flagyl? That is excellent in treating true vaginitis so if that's what you really have had, the pills should of made it better. I would go to a gynecologist for a confirmation of the diagnosis. If it is herpes, he or she will know! Good luck.

vaginitis only means you have some sort of irritation of the vagina, go to a real doctor, a gyno, and find out, it sounds to me like you have a much more serious problem going on there.

You definately need a follow up visit outside the ER setting. If you can't afford a trip to the Drs. see if there are STD clinics where doctors may see you for free.
But don't put it off any longer.
Good luck.

You need to return to the doctor and tell them this stuff isn't working can they give you something that will help with the pain and the burning

how awful, have you tried to douche it?
yes it can be misdiagnosed, it sounds like something worse is going on
