Can someone tell me about Vaginitis?

What is Vaginitis? And, how can you get rid of it? Is it serious? And, how does someone get it??

Vaginitis is a term used to describe various conditions that cause infections and inflammation of the vagina. They can be caused by anything from bacteria, yeast or viruses, chemicals in creams, lotions, sprays and even clothing that touch that area. It can also by caused by bacterium passed from partner to partner.

Most of the conditions that can be considered vaginitis aren't serious, but it's important to determine what kind of infection you have...like a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.

uhh??

does that have to do with your vagina

Vaginitis is bacterial. One thing that will help is eat ALOT of yogurt (douching with plain yogurt will help as well). It is best to see a doctor and get a prescription for it though. It is not serious really, but it needs treated.
You can get it via sexual transmission and sometimes, it just happens.

It is a bacterial infection in your vagina. Very contageous. You can only treat it by getting a special prescription from your doctor. Do NOT use any of those yeast infection medications with this because the cause is that your bacteria outnumbered the yeast that keeps it down. They balance each other.

It can be serious and lead to pelvic inflamatory disease (PID) which can cause infertility. (Just one case of PID can reduce your chance of getting pregnant ever by 50%!) Also, if you have a partner, he has to get treated for the vaginitis too because he will get it from you and then give it back to you. The doctor should give you enough pills for both of you.

BTW - douching with yogurt is for a yeast infection. Vaginitis is the opposite.

it's not dangerous, but you should be checked out by a doctor
they usually prescribe a cream depending on the type you have
there are several websites about it.

Don't self-medicate. See your doctor.. or go to planned parenthood--check the phone book for one close to you...Vaginitis can be serious if you have a bacteria that's sexually transmitted. Sometimes it can cause reproductive issues if not treated. Don't be shy or embarassed.. Call the doc's office and tell them you need a quick appointment. Tests are easy--usually just a quick culture or microscope slide. If its contageous, they might treat your partner as well. But don't self-medicate... get a diagnosis.
